Hello everyone,

I would like to request a Perforce id for the purpose of running regression
tests on the latest F95 and F03 builds. I am an electronics engineer and
long time Watcom user with interests in analog and digital simulation. I
have a lot of legacy Watcom F77 code that I would like to initially upgrade
to F95, then later to F03. Please accept my offer to assist with the F95 and
F03 regression test efforts. I have installed p4v and have enough disk and
memory to run the builds. You may contact me at the email address below.

Regards, Marty

What F95 and F2003 builds ? Peter Chapin hands out the perforce
accounts (I think).

Hi Lynn,

It looks like someone has started F95 and F2003 development branches that
haven't yet been integrated into the daily snapshot. From the OW home page,
see:

navigation>online source

then

//depot/ow_devel/fortran.F03.dev
//depot/ow_devel/fortran.F95.dev

The F95 looks relatively complete; the F03 appears to still be under
development.

Thanks, I'll contact Peter regarding Perforce.

Regards, Marty

Are those branches even buildable ? I guess that you need an
account to get to them.

Hi Lynn,

Good question. I emailed Peter requesting the development status. For the
build, we might have to just give it a try and see what happens.

Marty, I got your message and will reply in private email shortly.

I don't know the status of those branches; the people who worked on them
are occasional posters here... but I'm not sure if they are "around" at
the moment. Specifically: Mark Overholser and Hartmuth (forget his last
name).

It would be great to see the Fortran compiler start evolving again.

I haven't been active with F2003 for a long time. Not that it is dead, just
not active, and far away from useable in any form. Currently the F2003
development branch will not build at all and actually to be realistic one
should think of F2008 and F2010 instead.

Hi Hartmuth,

Thanks for stopping by. I just had a few questions:

* The F95 and F03 branches are derived from the original F77 modules. Do you
recall to
what degree the F95 branch implements the F1995 standard, and whether it
builds and
runs?

* For F03 there was an attempt to convert some of the modules to C++. Were
certain C++
constructs needed to implement parts of the F2003 standard, or were there
other issues
involved?

* Going forward to F2008 and F2010, what aspects of the existing compiler
architecture do
you think are going to be the most difficult to extend?
