I have the same problem. Not sure if this is by coincident. I recently
upgraded my mac to 10.6 and now in user login screen, I can't type
anything under OpenVanilla input mode. This is very frustrating.
I am using OpenVanilla 0.8.0.3.

Have anyone tried System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options, and check the "Show input menu in login window", to see if you can switch input method when security dialog appears?

d.
Yes I can. Without that option, no other IME allows non-English characters in password fields. (tried the Kotoeri based Japanese IME in 10.5 too)
