Inconsitent connection between the stops and the road network

Hello,

I have noticed something that seems inconsistent in the way OTP connects a stops to the closest street segment. Some stops do not get connected to the road network, some other get connected.

The inconsistent part is that some of the stops that  get connected are further away from the road network than stops that do no get connected. My road network has no one-way restrictions, and no accessibility restrictions.

It seems that my stops are less likely to be connected to the road network if they are located right on a shape defined in shape.txt and the shape doesn't follow my road network (for example shapes that represents train routes. Railways are not part of the road network I use in OTP).

As far as I understand, OTP doesn't have a problem with those stops since they generate no errors when I compile the graph.

Therefore, there is something I am missing. Could someone explain what kind of logic is used to connect those stops?

Hi,

As far as I know the stop locations should be coming from the GTFS. Then
there is a closest street snapping performed to the OpenStreetMap data.

I would be surprised if there is no snapping performed, except maybe you
have some roads that do not allow walking or so?

The answer, most likely, lies in your data - and someone would need to
check what happens in detail

As far as my understanding of the stop snapping goes, it links to most nearby car traversable highway that is also allowed by foot.

Best way to get perfect resuilts is to micro-map your stations with railway=platform and connect those platform's to the street network.

I agree, 

we had similar issues.

1 introduce walking paths and tagging in Open Street Maps was key to resolving the issues.
2 ensuring the most recent OSM layers were downloaded and used in OTP is also key.
