The French idiom "entre chien et loup" (literal translation: 'between dog and wolf') describes the time just before nightfall when the light makes these two animals indistinguishable. And there's a point to that confusion: The Moon asks us to put no greater value on the friendly and familiar parts of our psychic make-up (the dog) than the parts unknown-and-seemingly-dangerous (the wolf).
