Subject: google-talk voice and video on linux
Hello Community

Google has released plugin package for debian based distributions,
however fear not, here is a tarball that should work on any recent
Linux distribution. All that is required is download, extract and
restart of Mozilla based browsers.

Download the tarball from here:
http://groups.google.com/group/opensuse-india/web/google-talkplugin.t...

run this as root (changing the path of the downloaded file):

tar xvf /path/to/google-talkplugin.tar.bz2 -C /

Restart firefox and check for google in about:plugins.

Cheers

..

It may break something if libraries are not compilable. Best luck ;)
(At least in Fedora, I got news)

What distro is that on?

Just remove the files installed by the tarball. Extract it to some
place and see where it has copied files then do something like : rm
-rf /opt/google...

Ciao

11.1 is very old, I've tested it on 11.3.

I've just created an RPM from the tarball. This should make it easy to
install/remove. I can forward/upload this here if anyone is
interested. I can't put this in the openSUSE build service as they do
not accept packaged binaries. I have tested this under openSUSE 11.3
by doing a video/voice chat in Gmail/Google Chrome and it worked
without problems.

You must first install libopenssl0_9_8 and glew. Both are available
from the main OSS repository/DVD.

Once done, you would need to install the talk plugin with the nodeps
option as below

rpm -ivh --nodeps google-talkplugin-1.0-1.i586.rpm

Regards,
Vimal

This is no longer required, Google now provides RPMs for Fedora and openSUSE.

Cheers
