Hi everyone,
This is my first post as well.

I recently looked at GitHub for a pet project I was working on, and
using the site alone I was able to get up and running (in Windows)
with source control quite painlessly.
The caveat is that I do have familiarity with Linux and
Subversion/TortoiseSVN for Windows, so your level of painlessness may
vary.

The guides are very good though as a starter.
http://github.com/guides/home

I also watched Linus Torvalds talk on Git he gave at Google where he
discussed the principles behind its creation and how best to use it
before I decided that it was a distributed version control system I
wanted for my project and not a classic Subversion/CVS/TFS type
version control system. It's on YouTube at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XpnKHJAok8 and I highly recommend it
to anyone interested in Git

Hope that helps with the previous discussion thread.
-Nissan

There's also TortoiseGit - http://repo.or.cz/w/TortoiseGit.git and
mirrored to http://code.google.com/p/tortoisegit/ . It works fine,
but I started using the CLI regardless, since I'm doing some remote/
headless stuff at present.

Sounds like engaging in the project will be a way for folk to learn about Git as well :-)

Do we have a volunteer to lead the project, configure GitHub, orchestrate the problem domain, etc?

Alan Dean

I'm still an amateur with Git, since all I did really was watch the
YouTube video Linus gave on Git and then follow the advice on GitHub
guides to get my PC that has Windows up and running with a GitHub
project.
I havent really deep dived into fully developing a real project with
Git, but I'd really like the chance to.

I'd like to help where I can, what would leading the project involve?

I've got a small (really small!) amount of experience with git/
github. I've successfully used it with my rake-dotnet library, but
not much else; not, for example, working on something with more people
than just myself.

Perhaps it would be a good preparation to stick the skeleton of
whatever the ongoing project is going to be into a new repository, and
have the lead that you pick work on this for a little to get some
progress happening with it, so it's not a blank slate for the next
OSC?

I would volunteer, except I'll be right in the throes of starting my
new job shortly, so don't anticipate having any time available.

Regards
Pete
