For security purposes, the Orkut sandbox opensocial calls will only
return information about users who are whitelisted for the sandbox.
This is likely why many of you have been seeing empty information
returned from the fetch VIEWER_FRIENDS calls.
Please friend other whitelisted developers, or register additional
test accounts to build a graph of whitelisted friends. An Orkut
community has been created to help find people working on the sandbox
to friend:

The sandbox should be working properly, with only occasional "No
Donut" errors. If you're still seeing this issue can you please ping
sandbox.orkut.com and send me the IP address that you're hitting (and
the account you're using).

I am having similar problem. For about 2-3 weeks Orkut not allowing to
add new friends while using sandbox.
It allows me to add when out of sandbox, but then so added friends are
not shown with OS applications (even if they are having
sandbox accounts).
Sorry, I was wrong about OS apps not returning friends added out of
sandbox.
So for me the solution is to go to orkut.com instead of
sandbox.orkut.com add then I can friends for OS testing.
