Hi,

I've heard that JIRA now supports OpenSocial API.

I checked the docs but they were of little help, I cant seem to get
the REST API of JIRA... has anyone tried to do something with the
container or knows where to look for more info?

Thanks

Hi Pablo,

JIRA 4.0 supports gadgets, but not the OpenSocial API itself.

There's a tutorial at http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DEVNET/Plugin+Tutorial+-+Writing+Gadgets+for+JIRA
and some more detailed documentation at
http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/GADGETS/Gadgets+and+Dashboards+Development+Hub

Since this is all still pretty new, there are probably still some
gaps, so I apologize if you can't find something that you're looking
for. We'll do the best to help you out. The best way to ask for help
is to post a message to the JIRA Development forum at
http://forums.atlassian.com/forum.jspa?forumID=100

Tim,

Thanks for your reply.

Just a quick question, is there a way to interact with the container
(i.e. posting new issues, querying for existing ones, etc) WITHOUT
writing the back-end REST services ourselves?
I thought there was an API to handle requests like OpenSocial's "get
friends" or "get activities" that worked out of the box, was I
mistaken?

Regards

Hi Pablo,

JIRA 4.0 doesn't support the full OpenSocial spec, so activities and
friends is not yet implemented. We've really only focused on the
gadgets part of the spec so far.

Unfortunately we didn't have time yet to write a proper REST API for
JIRA 4.0, so for the moment you'll have to write your own REST
endpoints or use our existing RPC interface (http://docs.atlassian.com/
software/jira/docs/api/rpc-jira-plugin/latest/index.html). A proper
REST API for JIRA is in the works, but it may still be quite some time
before we feel it's ready for public consumption.
