Myspace OpenSocial: Is Data Store what I'm looking for?

After trying to figure out how to get Data Store to work for Myspace,
and reading about how crippled it seems to be, I have a question.

Is Data Store what I need for the app I'm building?

The app I'm building will need to be able to create a few simple
pieces of data for each user that uses the app. These pieces of data
need to be accessible to all other users. Can Data Store do this? Or
was the sharing functionality lost when Global Data was taken away? If
it is possible, can I see an example? Examples I've found don't seem
to work for Myspace.

Should I just look more into makeRequest and storing data server side?
I would prefer not needing to store data through a 3rd party server,
is there an alternative?
