Yeah, so what's this mean for OpenSocial support from Google.

What alternative do they have for my morning read of all of my
interesting gadgets on one page?

Links for everyone else who hasn't read this yet.

Nov 2013 is the shutdown date.

Might be an opportunity for the Opensocial foundation and Apache Rave and Shindig ... to launch a free opensource alternative using the latest RAVE build.. and maybe make it an easy way to migrate people's data from iGoogle.

Paul/Fargo, any insight for the rest of us.. as to the why or what will be done to transition data.  Would it be possible for Google to alllow people to easily export there page definitions to third party open source service?

I wasn't involved with this decision, but the writing has been on the wall for some time.  iGoogle has been stuck on 0.8 for the longest time, the social features never did work out well and were later cancelled, etc.

Knowing Google there will be a data liberation feature that would enable a third party to pick up these uses.  I'll see what I can do to help make this transition easier.

I would be interested in seeing something like, this; but, it couldn't be run by Apache.  We could do demo sites, etc but nothing on the scale of iGoogle.
