Subject: OpenSearch in Windows 7
Hey guys, so last week we unveiled Windows 7 to the world at PDC 2008,
and one feature we announced (and described in detail during our
session) was Search Federation in the Windows Explorer.  Like the
SharePoint and Search Server federation announced earlier in the year,
we use OpenSearch (along with RSS or Atom) to accomplish this.

DeWitt got a quick demo of it when we met up at the conference.  I
waited until today to mention it here because I wanted to link you to
this Channel 9 video that describes how Search Federation in Windows
works.

http://channel9.msdn.com/posts/Dan/Windows-7-Find-and-Organize-Part-2...

We intend to work closely with everyone here to see which parts of our
small set of extensions might be candidates for inclusion in the Draft
4 or later OpenSearch spec.  We're also very interested in getting
feedback on the extensions themselves and how we might be able to
improve them.  For now I thought many of you might be interested in
checking out that video.

Look forward to hearing what you all think!

Brandon

Hi Brandon,
Are the specs for your extensions published online? If so, where may
we read more?

Let me find out what the status is on the documentation.

The format changed between our PDC release and the upcoming beta, and
the beta-compatible extensions should be posted with the Win7 beta SDK
and related documentation.
