Hello! It's been too long. Forgive me.
I've been working with Code for America to plan an event on February
25th. The goal of the event will be to set up one of Code for
America's apps here in San Diego. San Diego is one of a few "alpha
cities" doing this as part of what they call the Code for America
Brigade. Their goal is to get more cities to use apps they've
previously built for other cities to see if they're sustainable and
replicable.
I'd appreciate any support you can give to the event. The event
doesn't need to be big for us to accomplish our goal, which is to set
up a previously developed app.
We're looking at setting up one of these three apps:
Open211 (
http://open211.org) – Many cities have existing social
services that aren't easily searchable by hours of operation, location
and available resources. Open211 creates a directory to help solve
this problem.
Open Data Catalog (
http://marketplace.civiccommons.org/apps/open-data-
catalog) – Open Data Catalog is intended to display information and
links to publicly available data in an easily searchable format. The
code also includes options for data owners to submit data for
consideration and for registered public users to nominate a type of
data they would like to see openly available to the public. Written
using Django, Python and PostgreSQL.
MuralApp (
http://codeforamerica.org/?cfa_project=mural-app) – Public
art can define the spirit of a city. It connects people with a sense
of history and place. A mobile app can give people access to
information that helps them better understand the world around them.
MuralApp helps you to not only find art, but to get to know it. Who
was the artist? What was their thinking behind the piece? Was there a
different mural beneath the one you see today and what did it look
like? The mural app is a way for city dwellers and visitors to explore
the art in their towns – and discover the history of the art around
them.
