Who's there!?

Please introduce yourself and let us know why you're interested in
opening up San Diego data.

I'm Jed Sundwall. I live in Pacific Beach, and have lived in San Diego
since I moved here to attend grad school at UCSD 6 years ago. I work
as an Internet marketing and strategy consultant. I spend my spare
time working on Open San Diego and the house that my wife and I just
bought. I like to cook, and I like to surf. I don't do enough of
either. You can find out more about me at http://jed.co

I'm interested in San Diego data for a lot of reasons, but here are
three:

1. I want to help journalists do their jobs more easily. More
accessible data about San Diego will help them produce factual science-
based reporting.
2. I want to make it easy for interested citizens to examine data in
ways that journalists, policy makers, and businesses aren't doing yet.
The Internet makes it easy for us to share and examine data together.
Data is great source material for creative minds. Let's give it to
them.
3. I'm a geek. I'm fascinated by data, the Internet, and data
visualizations (warning: I'm a visualization snob, but that's another
discussion).

I'm a San Diego County native who works for a local news organization.
I enjoy taking evening walks through University Heights with my wife,
and the weekends we spend in Tijuana. I'm into photography, art and
family.

I'm interested in seeing local government data published in flexible
formats so residents and journalists have access to information about
their communities.

Hi, I'm Jennifer Bell. I've just moved to San Diego (Pacific Beach),
and have a brand new baby, so I've been scaling back my work on open
government initiatives. Previously, I worked for a Canadian open
government non-profit, http://visiblegovernment.ca

Hi All,

I heard about Open San Diego at the last Ignite conference. I'm
interested in encouraging transparent government and giving people
tools to better understand what goes on in their communities. Also,
I'm a nerd who enjoys playing with data in general.

I moved to San Diego in 2004, and my partner and I bought a house in
Normal Heights last year. I work as a software engineer. In my spare
time I enjoy cooking, hiking, and photography, and am active in a
community music group.

Best

Greetings OpenSanDiego group,

I'm Ryan Wold. I live in Northern, CA (Vacaville) and only visited
San Diego when I was about 10, to visit the Zoo and beach.

I'm interested in opening up San Diego data because I'm interested in
opening up public data at all levels of government (and primarily
local). I run http://opensolano.org for my county (which is currently
down), and I moderate the LocalLabs forum at http://e-Democracy.org/locallabs.

My background is in technology, finance, and public administration.
I'm interested in making government more efficient and accountable,
and increasing civic engagement. I'd like to reduce the complexity of
government so that citizens can participate effectively in our
representative democracy, given many other demands of today's society.

Lately, technical works involves Ruby/Rails development and a bit of
visualization with Processing.

So, hello everybody. I looking forward to opening up and making sense
of data in and around San Diego.

Hi all,

This is Sam. I was at the drumbeat session yesterday. It was fascinating to hear about the project, which I have plan to do something similar. Hope to learn more about it. And where can I find info on Hex hacker?  I'm very much interested in the opportunity of bridge programmer and journalist.

Thanks, Lorie!

Sam, the URL for Hacks/Hackers is http://meetupsd.hackshackers.com/

I'm hoping to organize a "movie night" event for early March to watch
Journalism in the Age of Data http://vimeo.com/14777910 — we're just
looking for the right venue now.

Thanks!
Jed.
