I have bashed my head against the wall trying to get OpenNI to install
properly. I have tried every version that I can find - stable /
unstable / zigfu. The result is always the same.

When I plug in the Kinect, it automatically installs Microsoft Kinect
drivers. In Device Manager, I tried rightclicking the devices under
Microsoft Kinect and uninstalling it - but it is no use.

I have never installed the Microsoft drivers and even reformatted my
machine to try and wipe it, but it was no use.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Microsoft has started pushing their Kinect drivers through Windows Update. The work-around is: Open Device Manager, right-click on "Microsoft Kinect\Microsoft Kinect Camera", Update Driver, "Browse my computer...", "Let me pick..." and choose the one which doesn't start with Microsoft.

That worked like a charm. Thanks!

Ironically even when Microsoft tries to make improvements it drives my crazy...
