Hi All,

A new "unstable" release was uploaded into the www.openni.org site.
(OpenNI - 1.3.4.6, NITE - 1.4.2.5, Sensor - 5.0.4.4).

Due to a bug in the web site, the release is actually located in the
"stable" section of the downloads and also the .tar.bz2 come up
as .tar.tar files by mistake.

There are several new critical changes & fixes in this version:
- Linux/Mac: ONI file playback is now working.
- Linux/Mac: The NITE crash on 64-bit machines is finally fixed!!!
(The checkOcclusion one...)
- Sources: All Linux based platforms (Linux/Mac/ARM) have been unified
into a single directory called Linux.

The sources on GitHub and the complete change log will be updated
soon.

Ziv.

Great news, thanks!

About this specific issue:

> - Linux/Mac: ONI file playback is now working.

I have been playing ONI files in Linux so far (from the command line,
for example: "./Sample-NiUserTracker my_recording.oni"). What exactly
was not working, or was fixed in today's release?

Best regards,

Hi,
It was a bug of the previous unstable release.
If you were using the stable release all was well.
Ziv.

I was using unstable (in particular unstable v1.3.2.3 I think, judging
from my XnVersion.h file), hence my curiosity in this bugfix.

Thanks,
-Giovanni

The previous unstable release was 1.3.4.3.

The one you are using is the previous previous release and it didn't
have any problem :-)

The new which fixes everything is 1.3.4.6.

Since the update I am loosing around 10fps from the 30fps on the Depth
and RGB streams if I configure a User node (even if I don't actually
use it). It also happens if I use WaitNoneUpdateAll()

Does this sound strange? Has anything changed?

Thanks,
Rula.

This should not happen of course...
Are you using ONI files or a live sensor?

Do you perhaps have some small test program that will help us to
reproduce the problem?

Does the problem go away if you install the previous version (NITE
1.4.2.4) or if you install the previous OpenNI (1.3.4.3)?

Thanks,
Ziv.

Is it possible to use the new Sensor module 5.0.4.4 for the Kinect? Or
is it still needed to use the altered "SensorKinect" 5.0.3.4 from
avin2.

I getting this error when i try to install in OS X Lion:

line 180: 63877 Segmentation fault: 11 gacutil -i Bin/OpenNI.net.dll -
package 2.0 $GACDIR

What seems to be the problem?

Hi Ziv,

i work on Kubuntu 11.10 64bit. There i've got the problem, that the
depthMap gives back wrong data. I had to recompile OpenNI in order to
get valid data. Here i found a solution:
http://dancingwithyourshadow.blogspot.com/2011/10/using-kinect-with-openni-on-ubuntu-1110.html

But i only recompiled OpenNI to get it working again:
/Source/OpenNI/Linux/XnUSBLinux-x86.cpp, line 1057:
from:
memcpy(pTransfer->buffer + nTotalBytes, pBuffer, pPacket-
>actual_length);
to:
memmove(pTransfer->buffer + nTotalBytes, pBuffer, pPacket-
>actual_length);

Hi maxOh!
The memmove patch fix will be released in our next unstable release
which is scheduled for sometime next week...
Thanks,
Ziv.

Hello,
Are there any improvements to the skeleton algorithm?

There are none in NITE 1.4.2.5, it's only a bug fix for a memory
corruption.

Next week we are going to release an unstable version of NITE 1.5
which will have new features such as the removal of the calibration
pose! :)
