As I have spoken with each of you about my thoughts about the need for
the Openlocation.org initiative, I have been listening carefully and
have done my best to synthesize your input into something coherent and
actionable.
This will be an ongoing process and I expect that this is just the
beginning of what will be a complex but interesting conversation, one
that I hope not to lead, but rather to champion.
I'm in the process of finalizing the language with which I would like
to launch the initiative.
If you would take a look at the site (http://openlocation.org) and
send me any feedback regarding the language I've used, I would
appreciate it.
I have taken a great deal of time to try to articulate my thoughts
clearly and to choose the correct words for this, as I think that is
terribly important.
Don't hold back -- if I'm dancing around a topic or reinventing a
concept, say so. I really want this language to be tight.
The site itself is basic Wordpress right now; I have a logo and some
design ideas cooked up but won't have time to apply them until
Sunday. (I'm chairing a Devcamp in Baltimore tomorrow.) So in the
meantime you'll have to deal with the default Wordpress theme. I also
plan to rearrange and further break up some of the text into multiple
pages.
I intend to put in some mechanisms through which the public can sign
up to be part of a beta trial; we need to discuss what all that might
include but that can wait until after the conference.
Thanks again -- really appreciate your interest in advancing this
conversation. Looking forward to seeing all of you Monday!
Best,
Dave
