Last time i tried to show a dcp at a local cinema, but the frame
was very tinted in red color. i think that happens because i havent
changed the color space from rgb to xyz (or is it another problem?)

I wanna keep the colors right for dcp, but i'm not sure, if that will
work with my workflow:

create new workspace in ae3 with colormanagement set to hdtv
render export: TIFF, trillion colors, change color management to DCDM
xyz (gamma 2.6)

or should i start by creating a workspace in XYZ? if so, i have to
do a lot of color adjustment (the videos look very tinted green)

thanks for sharing your knowledge!

It seems to be normal to work in an RGB space and export to XYZ. Not
much software knows how to work in XYZ.

I regularly create DCPs (using my own software) and After FX.

To export images in the correct format for a DCP... do the following.

AfterEffects Project Settings -> Select 16bit (Not 8bit) and set the
Colour space to Adobe RGB 1998 or what ever you are using.
In the render settings, ensure you select tif files as the output and
then trillions of colours. In Color management, select DCDM XYZ (Gamma
2.6)

You will then output 16bpp Tif files in the DCI compliant XYZ colour
space.

I have now written my own utility that will take any format (well
most!) 8bpp image and convert it to XYZ colourspace automatically! It
supports 6 different RGB colour spaces for the source image, and I can
add more as needed easily!

I tested it the other day at the cinema with a 3D Stereoscopic promo
we did and it worked a treat!

CYA!

Steve,

will your tool be open source and available?
If yes, when and were?

Secondly, does anybody know a color conversion workflow that works
with Eyeon Fusion instead of AE?
I am not sure how to process the RGB to XYZ color space conversion.

I also read somewhere about the CTL color transformation language, but
have no idea how to use that.

Anyone else having an idea?

Cheers,
Axel

Hey Axel,

My software is still in beta test stage and although it is working
really well with no major problems, I am about to re-write the main
core thread routine to optimise CPU usage.
I hope to start this early in the new year. I do intend to sell it,
but at a significantly cheaper cost than others I've seen.

I have also almost finished writing a small utility that will take an
image created in an RGB colourspace and perform an XYZ transformation
on it.

It's working really well and will do batch processing, however other
commitments (my work!!!) are preventing me from starting it at the
moment.

I also intend to write the XYZ transformation into my DCP solution,
and now that it is working, it won't take long to do.

CYA
