Since we have already a couple of people interested in Polish
translation, I created this new discussion thread:

Please coordinate all Polish translations in here, so that people
don't do duplicated work.
Most importantly, please try to find good translations of the
application names.

Current status of translations:
http://code.google.com/p/openintents/wiki/Translations

Thank you for helping!

Hi all Polish translators;)

I'm the one responsible for OI Notepad translation, so blame
everything on me;)

First thing that I'd like to discuss are names for apps, because they
will be used in most of projects (at least I think so). My proposals
are:
- OI Notepad - OI Notatnik
- OI Shopping list - OI Lista Zakupów
- OI Flashlight - OI Latarka
- OI File Manager - OI Menedżer Plików (Menadżer? Both versions are
corrent according to pwn.pl)
- OI News Reader - OI Czytnik Wiadomości
- OI Update - OI Aktualizacje (OI Uaktualnienia?)
- OI Countdown - OI Odliczanie

Moreover, I think that there are synonyms such as "Utwórz" and
"Stwórz" that both may be a translation for "Create". I think that we
could use them same way in all projects, so that OI Notepad, OI About
and others will use the same translation word for them. It's just a
thought.

Best regards,
szeldon

Oh, I forgot about those:
- OI About - (I don't have any idea for this because "OI O" sounds
bad... Maybe "OI Informacje dodatkowe")
- OI Safe - (Is it used? There's no such a position in Downloads, but
it is mentioned elsewhere)
- OI ConvertCSV - Konwerter CSV
- OI Timesheet - OI Praca (Karta Pracy?)
- OI Voice Note - OI Notatka Głosowa
-

It is a new application that has been rebranded (and was formally
known as Android Password Safe). The icon is a safe to store valuable
items, such as passwords or encrypted notes.

I have to mention at this point that "Timesheet" is not one of the
open source applications (it does not have "OI" in the name). While we
welcome translations there as well, I would just like to make you
aware of this right from the beginning.

All other applications mentioned are open source, and published either
under Apache 2 license or the GPL v3 (see readme of the applications
involved), and by contributing translations, you confirm that your
translation is original and agree that it can be released under the
respective license.

Android will be available in Poland in February, so it would be great
if we can have all applications translated by then :-)

In German, we translate it as "OI Info". I don't know whether this
could be a valid translation also for Polish? (since the beginning
sounds similar)

Sounds good. Now you're translating to Polish without knowing this
language... Great achievement;)

I've cleaned up the shopping list strings, so translation on those can
start.

http://openintents.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ShoppingList/res/values/arrays.xml
http://openintents.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ShoppingList/res/values/strings.xml
http://openintents.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ShoppingList/res/values/strings_and_arrays_about_info.xml
http://openintents.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ShoppingList/res/values/strings_distribution.xml
http://openintents.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ShoppingList/res/values/strings_permissions.xml

Please let the others know here in this thread if you are about to
start. You can send me the translated xml files. If you can only do a
small part, this also helps :-)

Note that strings_distribution.xml probably only needs copy and paste
from the NotePad translation:
http://openintents.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/NotePad/res/values-pl/strings_distribution.xml

I can try with ShoppingList, if I may.

For other Polish translators:
"Preferences" may be translated to "Preferencje" or to "Ustawienia". I
prefer "Ustawienia".

Another for Polish translators:
"Accept" may be translated to "Akceptuj" or "Zatwierdź". I prefer
"Zatwierdź".

Actually, Android uses "Settings" instead "Preferences" on its home
screen.

I wonder if we should adapt that term as well.
(There is a slight difference in meaning: Settings are something
definite, while preferences simply give indications about what the
user prefers. In many cases I guess they are used synonymously,
though).

I mentioned "Preferences" because this term is used in strings.xml for
OI ShoppingList:

http://openintents.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ShoppingList/res/values/strings.xml

For me, "Preferences" and "Settings" are so synonymous, that it
doesn't matter which term will be used.

Hi,

I'm working on translation of OI Shopping List. What I'd like to know
is what are is "preference_sortorder_entryvalues" array in arrays.xml:
http://openintents.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ShoppingList/res/values/arrays.xml
I see that it is used in preferences.xml
http://code.google.com/p/openintents/source/browse/trunk/ShoppingList/res/xml/preferences.xml
but I don't know if it is something that has to be translated.

This should not be translated - it is the SQL where clause with the
column names to be sorted.

Eventually, a cleaner solution like in OI Notepad should be
implemented, where this array only contains the indices (0,1,2,3), and
the SQL commands stay within the application.

Are you working through Launchpad already? :-)

I thought so. It wasn't mentioned anywhere, so I thought it's the best
thing to ask.

I'm not, but I'm trying to:)

Ah, sorry for the confusion.. I had somehow assumed that pjv had
uploaded a part already, but not yet... for now you have to continue
to edit strings.xml by hand, but I hope pjv finds a solution soon :-)

Hi,
What about next apps? Do I have to choose them by myself?

Yes, feel free and announce which part you are working on. Are you happy with downloading the files from the code base directly?

E.g.
http://code.google.com/p/openintents/source/browse/#svn/trunk/Flashlight/res/values

Thanks for your answer. I'll work on Flashlight. Happy is not the best
word, but I'd say that I'm comfortable enough to continue work:)

Hi,

How would you translate "Empty list not sent" for shopping list?
    <string name="empty_list_not_sent">Pusta listę ni wyślij.</string>

Hi,

I'd translate it to "Nie wysłano pustej listy".

You can use Launchpad now to translate OI About:
https://translations.launchpad.net/openintents/trunk/+pots/aboutapp

You have to sign in, then select your language, and you can start :-)

Let us know how if it works well, and we'll upload more applications
for translation to launchpad with pjv's help :-)
