A word of warning to everyone, be careful with your iPhone 5 display... My adorable out of control pup knocked my phone out of my hand / pocket and the display shattered when it hit the road.

I took it to the Apple store thinking it would be $99 that is quoted for all other model screen replacements (or maybe even one of the infamous "oh you have bought a lot of stuff" complimentary fixes) but NO they do not currently repair the glass on iPhone 5 stating that each front display and glass is custom cut for each iPhone.  My only options were to buy a replacement phone for "cost" of $229 and/or to add Apple Care to that purchase for $279 and would cover me for one more incident.

No I did not purchase Applecare/Applecare Plus with the original phone and so I shelled out $246 ($229 plus tax) and had my phone swapped out for a new / replacement phone.  It is now plugged in charging and restoring from iCloud.

So be careful!

Y'know, I'm still a bit conflicted on this one. We've had six different iPhones in the family over the life of these devices, and we've had one screen breakage. Granted, it was the $99 replacement (on a 3G, I think), but I still have not purchased AppleCare for my idevices. Yup, it's a gamble, but isn't *all* insurance? You pay your money/take your chances.
So Bill, would you do it differently the next time around?

John
