Meetup 3pm onwards this Thurdsday 10th September ICA cafe.

Lots to discuss

I have been working on the new device bus and have some designs to put
forward and discuss

I have a design for the Armadillo which I would like get some feedback
on especially anyone playing with Arduinos that need more juice!

I would love to talk about OpenSource hardware production as have some
ideas to pursue here, there have also been some conversations
happening on this front :

http://dam.mellis.org/2009/07/the_opensource_hardware_distribution_model/
http://blog.folknology.com/2009/08/11/open-hardware-production/

There have been some interesting announcements worth discussing :

The newer REPRAP design is emerging with implementations http://blog.reprap.org/

Makerbot gets it's own factory to ramp up production but more
interesting starts to get involved in distributed production
http://blog.makerbot.com/2009/08/20/one-step-closer-to-the-true-makerbot-factory/

Maple http://blogs.leaflabs.com/2009/08/maple-prototype/ from the Leaf
Lab Guys

IlluminatoX http://antipastohw.blogspot.com/2009/08/wow-thanks.html
from the Liquidware Antipasto guys

And lots lot more from everyone else attending, Peter Knight from
TinkerIt has committed to attending and always brings cool stuff, so
please tipup to show or discuss any interesting OpenHardware/hacking
you may be playing with..

Just a reminder about location, we are meeting at the usual location
in the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts) cafe on the mall here is
the directions:

For show & tell I need a VGA TFT monitor. I've got a little 15"er I'll
bring - but do you reckon it'll be okay to plug it in?

I have asked on OPHAHA if anyone has a smaller more portable display
they could bring, to let you know.

Also Rob say's there are sockets near a few of the tables (http://
is.gd/2ZYzR) , so we will try to requisition one.

Arduino VGA sounds cool.

So,, What is this meet-up all about? What is the venue? What goes on
at a typical meeting? Convince me I should come along.

Hi Mike

I'm not going to sell you the meetup, The point of the group is that
like minded people can talk, show'n'tell or learn. The meetup is a
meatspace version, its good to get together with folks having similar
interests around open hardware and hardware hacking.

I would presume you get some of this when you attended the excellent
London HackSpace, unlike LHS we are not trying to provide a space or
venue, we collaborate virtually or wherever we decide to meet
(recently thats been the ICA), we are also exploring Open Source
Distributed Production for hardware if that interests you.

The meetings are not formal, they are small and often folks chat in
small groups about stuff brought along or other subjects around Open
Hardware. We do it because we are passionate about it and enjoy it.

We would love to see you there if thats your kind of thing.

regards
Al

There was an article in Circuit Cellar in June about NXP easy (e)mbed.
Unusually, this is still online and free to read

Armadiulo (Armadillo + ebus) will definitely be able to help you out
here having read your Notes, lets talk about it tomorrow.

The link inside the article to the cable cap ethernet paper is really
handy and may help me solve an issue I had sometime ago, thanks Paul

Regarding our conversations at the September meetup on the Armaduillo
board (among other things)

I have posted a new layout see "Arduino, Armadillo, Armaduillo, Amino"

http://folknologylabs.wordpress.com/2009/09/13/arduino-armadillo-armaduillo-amino/

would love your feedback

PS Peter can you give me you email address so I can email the FPGA
details we discussed.

regards
Al
