bushwick open studios 2009
The 2009 Bushwick Open Studios is coming up fast!
Here are the Facts about BOS 09 so far:
BOS 09 will be June 5-7th. There will be a kick-off event Friday night, and open studios and other events on Saturday and Sunday. Registration will open April 9th and close May 5th. All registrations will be processed through our website, so *please* don't send registration information to us by email!
This year we have REDUCED the registration fee to $30. Also, we are happy to waive the fee in exchange for a few hours of volunteering before or during the festival - no one is excluded due to lack of ability to pay. Not sure where to show, or have space to offer? We will be opening our Artists Seeking Spaces / Spaces Seeking Artists page soon, so keep your eyes peeled! AIB members are using our google group to coordinate
planning, faciliate interaction with new members and invite the presentation of new ideas. Check it out here --> http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102533276252&s=46&e=001GGc4Kp2-53Mc1ol4ug2p...
In April we will be hosting a casual and informative get-together for
people interested in registering who have questions and/or are interested in meeting other participating artists. More details on that coming soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to post to the google group, raise them at one of our planning meetings, or email us directly at lau...@artsinbushwick.org.
The next planning meeting for Open Studios will be held this coming Thursday, April 2nd, 8pm at 54 Stockholm St. If you can't make it this week, check out our upcoming meeting schedule. Hope to see you there!
BOS 09: Call for volunteers!
We need tons of help to make Open Studios amazing, so come on out of the woodwork and volunteer! There are lots of cool jobs that need filling, including:
- Web Tech
- Print and Web Design
- Volunteer Coordination
- Press and Promotions
- General Operational Support
For more information, or to volunteer, contact us volunt...@artsinbushwick.org
lumenhouse: call for support! call for artists!
On April 25th, Lumenhouse will be hosting a benefit to ensure their continued presence in Bushwick! Lumenhouse has been incredibly generous to Arts in Bushwick, donating their space for many events including our own benefit for Bushwick Open Studios. Please help us help them.
If you are interested in general volunteer positions (including bartending, space set-up, documentation, party planning, etc.), please email Manda at manda.l.mar...@gmail.com.
We also specifically seek the following:
Call for art! Lumenhouse seeks submissions from local artists for a silent auction that will be taking place during the event. Artists will receive half of the sale price of their work. If you are interested in participating, please email Aurora at i...@lumenhouse.com.
Call for artists! We are looking for roaming performances to take place throughout the evening. Interested artists should contact Chloe at ch...@artsinbushwick.org. Please note: due to sound constraints and tech support concerns, we are not able to accommodate bands.
call for artists: sex cells
SEX CELLS
A FREE Open Call for Erotic Cell Phone Art, made from the palm of your hand
http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102533276252&s=46&e=001GGc4Kp2-53N2ApWDDCZE...
We're all guilty of using our cellular devices for more than just phone calls. Now is your chance to turn those sexy photos, videos and texts into works of art! This nationwide open call is a search for well-executed, erotic expressions made only with a cell phone. Videos, photos and texts will all be accepted. It's time somebody showed sloppy celebrities and indiscreet politicians how it's done.
$500 will be awarded for the most intriguing submission and all work will be curated into a group show with a huge opening reception! Select submissions will also be published in 3rd Ward's quarterly publication.
For this call we are joined by Chase Lisbon of supercult.com and Ashlea Helpern, Senior Editor at Time Out New York.
Redefine your phone. Submit Now.

CALL FOR ARTISTS: Art in odd places
Art in Odd Places 2009: SIGN
Open Call for Artist Submissions
Art in Odd Places (AiOP) 2009: SIGN invites proposals from visual and performing artists interested in the spectacle of daily urban life. In its 5th edition, AiOP takes place on 14th Street, NYC from October 1-26, 2009.
We encourage artists and performers to explore its length and diversity, tease out its history and intervene imaginatively to encourage visitors, workers and inhabitants to discover it anew. AiOP 2009 is inspired by the many meanings of SIGN: Direction. Ban. Authority. Solidarity. Advertisement. Ownership. Gesture. Enticement. Omen. Signature. Trace. We are looking for work that is as much a sign of the times as a signpost to possibilities. Our interests include but are not limited to artist proposals for walks, tours and maps, (re)uses of public space, site-specific performance, social interventions, artists' projects with community partnerships, innovative uses of new technology.
2009 guest curators: Erin Donnelly and Radhika Subramaniam. AiOP Director: Ed Woodham. Visit http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1102533276252&s=46&e=001GGc4Kp2-53OD0fTqNwR1... for more details and application.
