Hi, everyone! Our last 2010 regional event is coming up this weekend in Portland, and I wanted to encourage those of you in the Pacific NW to join us. We'll be bringing together about 200 people to explore the state of public involvement in the region and innovative ways to draw on the knowledge and know-how of community members to construct outcomes that work for everyone.
170 are registered at this point, but we're capping at 200 and the remaining spots are going fast. The City of Portland Office of Neighborhood Involvement is our co-host (along with Concordia Univ), and a lot of people from the public sector will be attending.

Regional discussion of how to increase the Community Voice in decision making—JOIN US!
Community and neighborhood leaders, public officials, public engagement
practitioners, philanthropists, academics, and students from across the
Cascadia region (Washington, Oregon and British Columbia) are
converging on Portland on November 12 and 13. They’re going to talk
about the state of public involvement and innovative ways to draw on
the knowledge and wisdom of community members to construct outcomes
that work for everyone.
The City of Portland Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI),
Concordia University, and the National Coalition of Dialogue and
Deliberation (NCDD) are co-hosting this event.
Portland community and neighborhood leaders will have the chance to join in and:
• Create a learning community to explore what quality public engagement is and how we can create more of it
• Meet and network with others interested in public engagement
• Share what kinds of quality public engagement are happening in the region and what we are learning
• Discover ways we can support another in allowing quality public engagement to flourish here
The conference will be held at:
• Concordia University, Hagen Campus Center, 2811 NE Holman Street.

• Friday evening community dialogue (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) (FREE)
• Saturday all day conference (8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.) (Registration required)

NCDD is known for its highly participatory events and amazing
attendees, and this gathering will be no exception. Conversations will
continue informally after the conference on Saturday evening at the
Kennedy School.

World Cafe dialogue on community involvement in decision making
Friday evening, November 12, 2010; 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (FREE)
Please also join us on Friday night (Nov. 12) for a kick-off World Cafe
dialogue at Concordia's Hagen Campus Center at 6:30 pm. This evening
event is open to the community (and free, whether you're attending the
conference the next day or not!). Participants will explore the state
of citizen participation in public decision making in small group and
large group discussions. This discussion will serve as a lead-in to
Saturday’s all day event and activities. We encourage you to attend,
and to bring your friends and colleagues with you!

is $85 ($70 for dues-paying NCDD members and $42 for students).
