At November's Opening Up Government Data event in DERI, NUI Galway, I
presented an Irish Open Data Timeline. There were some comments that I
missed some dates and events, so I have created a page in the Open
Data workspace to capture the complete story of Irish Open Data. Feel
free to add relevant content to the timeline (or edit what I have
entered) here:
http://workspace.opendata.ie/wiki/Irish_Open_Data_Timeline
Cheers,
Deirdre

Apologies, I should add this directly to the wiki, but it's late in the day…
It's worth pointing out some of the early activities that predated the current flowering of open data in the country.
kildarestreet.com has been around since 2002 and today would be classified as an open data app.
statcentral.ie has been cataloging statistical data from around the government, in various stages of machine-readability and openness, since at least 2008 (I'm not sure when the site was established)
In the North, http://www.opendatani.info/ was around since I believe 2009, but after building the site they never put in more than 8 or so datasets. The site was discontinued earlier this year.
There were various hack days and other events that could be mentioned, e.g.,
Hacks and Hackers Hack Day in Dublin, 16 Nov 2010 (organized by ScraperWiki)
Open Data Hack Day in Galway, 4 Dec 2010 (organized by 091labs+DERI)
Open Data Hack Day in Galway, 15 Feb 2011 (organized by 091labs+DERI)
Best,
Richard
I've left a question mark on some of the early items, if anyone wants
to confirm the details.

Ah, I just saw the phrase “going back to 2004” and jumped to conclusions. Thanks for clearing that up Gavin!
