The base commander of CFB Trenton has been charged with two counts of first-degree
murder in connection with the murders of two area women, including a fellow soldier.
Col. Russ Williams, the wing commander at CFB Trenton, is charged with two counts of
first-degree murder in the deaths of Cpl. Marie-France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd and two
other home invasions last September in the Tweed area.
Police said Williams has also been charged with two counts of forcible confinement and two
counts of break and enter and sexual assault in connection with two sexual assaults of two
Tweed women back in September.
Williams was arrested Sunday in Ottawa.
Police told reporters in Belleville today that a roadside canvas on Feb. 4, brought
Williams to their attention.
Lloyd, 27, went missing Jan. 29. after she failed to show up for her job with Tri-Board
Student Transportation Services in Napanee. The last time anyone heard from Lloyd was the
night before when she sent a text message to a friend.
Her body was found early Monday morning off Cary Rd. near Tweed.
Last week, friends of Lloyd started distributing vehicle decals with photos of her, as
well as her description and contact information for police.
Comeau, 38, was found murdered in Brighton, Ont., on Nov. 25, 2009. She was a member of
437 Squadron at CFB Trenton.
"This is a very sad case and our hearts go out to the two victims families," OPP
Commissioner Julian Fantino said Monday.
The OPP got involved last week when Belleville Police called for their assistance, Fantino
said.
"We threw all our resources at it just like we did for Tori Stafford and it was a joint
investigation with the Belleville service," Fantino said. "It was a massive, co-operative
investigation from both sides and we are pleased to have been able to solve it."
With more than 20 years in the Canadian Forces, Williams is a married man that according
to a DND senior staff biography, is a keen photographer, fisherman and runner.
In the 1990s, Williams was stationed in Ottawa where he flew VIP Challenger jets for the
412 Transport Squadron.
When asked if they believe Williams may be allegedly tied to other crimes, OPP inspectors
said they will be tracking back through his accomplished career and will be speaking with
police services in the jurisdictions where he was stationed.

I guess, at heart most soldiers are murderers. They are trained to
kill and sometimes they lose perspective between who is the enemy. In
this case Russ Williams decided that the women who would not submit to
his sexual libido were the enemy and had to be destroyed.

That's one theory. Could also be that he thought women had no place in the armed forces.
Sorta like his boss, who called his ex-girlfriend 'a dog' in the House of Commons. Likely
he also thinks women have a place - and it's in the home, not the House.

Don't expect them to come from the higher ranks of society either. The kid
from a well to do family and his friend that potted off his grandma to get

The Military doesn't "hire". You enlist, it's your decision, and you may not
be nessesarily accepted. It's far from a "hired hand - employee employer
relationship".
Anyone with motive can be a murderer. Even you, and even me. But trust me
I'd get you before you'd get to me if I chose to do so.
If I did, you wouldn't know what was coming. Could be an unseen "adjustment"
on your car's brake lines, could be a door activated explosive,
could be a little "push" from my 4 x 4 into oncoming traffic, anything...
...murder isn't nessearily using a gun, a knife or a rope. Those are too
easy and too common. Best way is the unexpected. If so motivated, I would
want noteriety on your murder. An excruiating painful murder might do the
trick, earplugs, rubber gloves, a few sharp tools, (no wait, that would go
for Sockpuppet - har har). No, too yucky and gory.
If I chose to do so, but wouldn't of course. St. Peter has alot of work on
his desk without having to worry about ordering a cloud for you when
you're at the gates.
In fact it might be best to not think about it, and just have you continue
to wade through life's challenges.

I also meant to add that the tv reports on this story mentioned that 'enlisted military
members do not undergo psychological testing'. Incredible. Every police force does
psychological testing (the RCMP's standards must be very low), even people involved in
transport of the public - like airline pilots and bus drivers - undergo psychological
testing.
But the armed forces? Not. I'm beginning to wonder if they want the slightly unstable
and short-fuse types in the forces because they'll be the quickest to use force and
firearms and to take orders that may involve even civilians. No bloody wonder so many of
them are coming home and committing crimes; they likely were a little bit in love with
bloodletting before they enlisted.

A little late on the research there. The military is different. The military
members aren't confronted with the criminal element as much as the police
are.
Bus drivers also go through it since they are confronted with different
types of passengers, the military person isn't exposed to that type of
environment.

Sure. They knew what they were getting into when they enlisted. They are
trained in basic combat skills, but that isn't used by every single member
of the military in peacetime or support positions.

Agreed. In fact I am surprized we don't see more revenge murders,
suicides I suspect are up. But if you lose your house, your job, your
family and are just a little off on the violent side, maybe off a PM,
president or some representative. Maybe a EI person or your old boss.

He also associated with Paul Bernardo when both of them attended U of
T's Scarborough Campus taking Economics in 1987. The class was about
250 strong. But an RCMP profiler said that it's probably a
coincidence. She said that if two people who were the same as
Bernardo actually met, they wouldn't like each other because of their
nature.
This is going to be a very interesting case, once the DNA from some of
the other suspected murders is processed and if it's matched with the
guy.
To be fair, someone of his stature meets a lot of people. Connecting
him with MacKay is like connecting him with the Prime Ministers whose
plane he piloted, or Bernardo for that matter.

They don't always have a lot of evidence to go on. They only got the
warrant for his Ottawa home yesterday.
They initially nailed him in a road check in the area and suspected
him because he was evasive when questioned, "not very military-like"
in his responses. According to a report on CTV.
There's a tire impression that connects him to the murder of the
Private last Fall, but they haven't[ revealed a lot of information and
they won't until trial time.
