Hi all,

I am a degree student in Malaysia, doing my final year project. I would need some advice from you all.For my project, I will implement a new entity called Mobility Location Server (MLS) on top of the MIPv6 in INET framework. The function of MLS is to actively receive packet from mobile node. MLS will have an algorithm to check whether when the mobile node will perform handover with new access router. Once MLS detect the handover moment, it will send a new packet to inform MN to perform handover, MN will configure new Care-of-Address (CoA) and finally it will send binding updates to home agent which is same as basic MIPv6.

My general question is, how to create a server in OMNET++ which is MIPv6 enabled and which module can be used to implement the algorithm.

Really appreciate your help. Thank you.

Regards,
Henry

Hi Henry,

Just look at the existing HA node in teh MIPv6 example to get an idea for your implementation.

Hi Henry.

This seems to be a movement detection part, and in the current MIPv6 module it is within the router which is based on the RSSI. I am not sure why you would want to add another entity in the network to initiate a handover.

In any case if you still would like to add the server, then add another HA which would act like a buffer to pass traffic and allow handover.

Hi zack and Arif,

Thank you for your reply. Actually this is my degree final year project. I am not sure whether the server is workable or not. Based on one of the paper I read before, they did propose a mobility server in MIPv6 in order to determine the handover period and send a message to MN to initiate handover once the period is determined. Based on this, I would like to simulate the server in omnet++.

I would like to ask if I add another HA which act like a buffer to pass traffic and allow handover, is it still consider as server? If not, is there any suggestion on implementing it?

I have another simple question here, whether the HA and AR in MIPv6 example is having same subnet or different subnet? because i notice that, there are only one flatnetworkconfigurator6 there.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Regards,
Henry
