The high voltage lines "were forced upon us" in 1970. Bud, who has moderate-to-severe memory loss and cognitive impairment that now prevents him from doing even the simplest carpenter work (we have holes in our deck, doors that need repair and/or replacing, etc. ).The new rules/changes have to do with "outages." No dwelling or related property improvement may be located within the engineering (designed) fall distance of any pole, tower or support structure of a high-voltage transmission line, radio/TV transmission tower, microwave relay dish or tower or satellite dish (radio, TV cable, etc.). For field analysis, the appraiser may use tower height as the fall distance.
For the purpose of this Handbook, a High-Voltage Electric Transmission Line is a power line that carries high voltage between a generating plant and a substation. These lines are usually 60 Kilovolts (kV) and greater, and are considered hazardous. Lines with capacity of 12-60 kV and above are considered high voltage for the purpose of this Handbook. High voltage lines do not include local distribution and service lines.
Low voltage power lines are distribution lines that commonly supply power to housing developments and similar facilities. These lines are usually 12 kV or less and are considered to be a minimum hazard. These lines may not pass directly over any structure, including pools, on the property being insured by HUD.

Because of my "love of trees," I could not stomach the "butching" that has been going on for many years on other properties -- the removal of branches on side of oak, birch and other trees closest to the lines and/or topping of pine trees therefor resulting in one-sided tree and/or a "ruined pine tree" due to unnatural appearance.While I complained profusely to the point the transmission company chose to have a police officer "offer protection to tree-cutting crew" (they feared "verbal assault" apparently) on one occasion, agreements of late have included "huge concessions" on my part by allowing replacement of a pine tree rather than having it ruined in appearance by "topping" and the granting of permission to cut branches back 3-4 ft. from the high lines.Each episode of "tree trimming," included me expressing "major concerns" about reduction of foliage insofar as limiting some of the electric field exposure to Bud's brain while working in the front yard (and others) and also concerns about increased air-conditioning expenses because our house faces the south making "shade" an essential part of reducing utility expenses. In addition to health concerns as reported by others, I fear the RF reader will put us in even more danger of an explosion since our gas service has magnetic fields over and above ambient readings that vary from 1.0 mg to as high as 5.0 mg. An attempt was made by the gas company a couple of years ago to reduce the magnetic fields on our gas service pipes by clipping the tracer wire and installing an anode. This was "laughable" but definitely not funny! They dug a hole in the street, covered it up and never acknowledged that I told them this would not reduce the magnetic fields on our gas service and pipes!
One of my brothers and I took pictures of a sign stating "bridge closed." It has been reported there was another sign stating a fine of $2,000 would be imposed on trespassers. This is a pedestrian-bike bridge referred to as "Medicine Lake Trail." We refer to the trail as "Elm Creek Trail/bridge" but "name" is not issue of concern.People were reporting being shocked as they crossed the bridge under the high voltage lines. When an engineer from Boston Scientific managed to convince an employee of Three Rivers Park District to ride his bike across the bridge, the park employee also felt the shocks which then resulted in the bridge being closed.See TV news report: http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=516949&catid=14

As a large object with plenty of metal, the bridge is likely developing a charge from that electrical field, which shocks bicylists with a low voltage jolt.
Xcel believes that improving the grounding on the new bridge will eliminate the shock being passed on to riders who cross it... good news, for Kris Siejko. "Yeah," he laughed, "it's not very pleasant........" [ snip ]

Barnard said the shocks appear to be connected with nearby power lines, although both the bridge and the power lines were all built within specifications.
"We are operating under the assumption that part of what is happening is that people themselves are getting charged as they are traveling underneath [the power lines] and they are discharging to the bike and rail," Xcel Energy engineer Benjamin Gallay said. "There's nothing significant we can do to stop that other than telling people, 'No, you can't walk there.' " .......... [ snip ]
Obviously, there was nothing that could be done to eliminate the shocks, so the pedestrian/bike bridge was re-opened with a sign: "Notice, you may experience a sensation while crossing this bridge........" There is a statement on the sign regarding being within guidelines. While we have the pictures on CD/DVD, my brother wants to add an identifier re photographer before I distribute the pictures.
"A sensation?" Does this "sensation" stimulate brains of humans and pets who are crossing the bridge? Does this "sensation" perhaps disrupt electrical signals to one's heart? Might this "sensation/stimulation" constitute "therapy?" Is it o.k. to have this sort of "therapy" while "exercising?" Is it o.k. for an infant to have this sort of "therapy" while sitting in a stroller perhaps holding a toy that has a speaker (magnet)? Is it o.k. for a pregnant woman to "feel this sensation" while crossing the bridge and who may also be carrying a cell phone or i-Pod, etc. close to her belly/fetus? How many times a day or week is this "sensation" recommended? Might this "sensation" reduce sperm counts and/or quality of sperm thereby subjecting future generations to congential defects?
Certainly there are "limitations on therapy!" What about my husband Bud, who may just now have gone outdoors to mow the grass under the high voltage transmission lines? Is the "sensation/stimulation" that assaults Bud's brain every minute he stands close to the high lines in excess of electromagnetic stimulation used to help patients with epilepsy? What are differences in frequencies between accepted electric field stimulation therapy and shocks Bud gets all day long when he works close to high lines, sits in his recliner chair in the living room and/or lies in his bed every night only 50 ft. from the two high voltage power lines? Magnetic fields are seldom below 4.0 mg (EMF California Report 2002) any where in our front yard or inside our house. Last night, ambient reading in front entry was 5.4 milligauss. I do not measure the electric fields even tho they are the likely bio-active agent according to Scientist Roger Coghill and other sources.

Statements on the WHO webpages indicate more research is needed. Does this not constitute "experimentation without informed consent" particularly when considering my husband Bud, who suffers from "Reactive Dementia" (likely caused by electric fields from electric clock radio on nightstand, lowering of his melatonin combined with synergystic reactions between electric fields from the two high voltage power lines 50 ft. from his bed and consumption of statin medication that, along with electric field exposures, or separately, lowers vital CoEnzyme Q-10 which is essential to proper brain function) has been for years an unknowing victim of toxic electric field exposures?
Do I, as Bud's "caretaker," have the legal right to agree to complete removal of most of the trees in our front yard, the trunks, branches and foliage of which are known to help reduce electric field levels, therefor subjecting Bud to even "more experimentation?"
Is exposing Bud to more "electrical stimulation" that equates to "overuse of electromagnetic stimulation therapy" possibly "a criminal act" in the same way as if I administered arsenic every night along with Bud's melatonin and other supplements?

I have long championed the cause of 'warning of the hazards to human health' by the ubiquitous EMF (electromagnetic field energy) that has come to dominate our environment.........
There is really no EMPIRICAL scientific doubt about the fact that the "energy of the universe" itself acts upon all life cells.......... That is true of the natural EMF energy AND THE MAN MADE, like cell phones, power lines, computers, etc. -- all of those many electrical conveniences which have become so important to our 'modern' civilization.......
That much we know for sure........
What we do not know ... is "how much" of the man made exposure -- now far exceeding the natural exposure of the universe -- can safely be tolerated by our human cells ... and by our environment, particularly including other wildlife...........!!!
We also do not know how many years after exposure before the damaging health effects (that began to do cell damage at the time of the exposure) are detectable ... and the effects manifested.........
Since the time of man's conquest of electrical energy, only about 150 years ago, (and his subsequent conquest of the many, many variations of 'electronic' energy) ... mankind ... himself ... has increased his exposure to electrical and electronic forces that FAR EXCEED that exposure to which his life cells had been exposed during the three million years or so of his 'evolution' to what life has become today.......... Some scientists estimate that the exposure is being increased by a factor of MILLIONS of times above the natural exposure, in some situations........
In that EXPONENTIALLY increased exposure ... lies the uncertainty of "what damage are we doing ourselves" with man made electromagnetic energy........???
In the U.S. this issue has been swept under the rug since it was first recognized, during the course of (and soon after) World War II. As a former nuclear weapons officer in the Navy and as a "lobbyist/PR" person in the electrical industry, I subsequently spent about a dozen years engaged in finding out about that EMF research and the possible health effects of EMF....... My work at that time was among the earliest published on the internet. (I started when we were still dependent upon the DOS system -- remember that???) Some of what I wrote is still around on the internet....... I did not DO the research, I collected the results ... and tried to "shine a light" upon the consequences of the scientist's findings....... I saw that the usual compromises of empirical evidence which might cut into commercial profits ... came to dominate the "scientific" scene in the U.S........ I tried to expose that -- without much success.........
After my loss of my wonderful wife in 2005, I quit trying to do anything about reporting or publicizing the CERTAIN human health consequences of increased, uncontrolled, unregulated human exposure to EMF fields of all types........
Many of the scientists (worldwide) and friends of that period, however, are still at work and still communicate regularly with me....... I forward below one of those recent communications. You may find it interesting ... for its powerful human plea ... and a few examples of the MANY, MANY manifestations of this growing problem, in America and the world........
