A large Aluminum heatsink. I got it off of a Siemens panel at the City of Council Bluffs garage. Not sure what it was used for but it is about 16" x 16" x 6"

Let me know

There's gotta be some use for it... material for the furnace at the very least.

Speaking of, I don't know if it was mentioned on the list, but we recently obtained a large quantity of scrap aluminum in the form of inch-diameter cable that may be good for casting. I suppose it is probably crap for machining, but we will see. Maybe if it is we can experiment with additives to improve its hardness.

Ok if I remember to grab it tonight when i pickup the bronco I will
bring it down.

Anyone have a line on where I can get some aluminum blocks for wire
distribution?

Speaking of experimenting with additives to strengthen the aluminum... We melted the bottom out of the steel crucible -- probably a combination of heating it up way too much and the fact that hot aluminum dissolves steel. Stupid distracting electric scooters and their fun-ness.

Next up: rebuilding the tippy-forge + crucible with thicker steel!

What kind of thickness are you looking for?  I can keep my eyes open....

We need some plate to cap the bottom of the new crucible. Probably 1/8" steel minimum. The ticker the better, to a point.
If you have any decent steel pipes, we are kind of still in the planning phase for the rebuild.

Most of what I have here in the scrap bin is 1/16", but I'll go look again.

Would square or rectangular work?

As long as it has a flat surface, it should work fine. were going to be cutting it up anyway.
like a 3ish inch circle is what were going for I believe.

Thanks Eric

I was thinking of the tube being used for the actual body of the crucible, with another plate welded to the bottom.  Then you'd have 1/8" wall all around.

Oh, We kind of need the crucible to be round to get the proper air/gas/fire flow. i found a couple pipes that should work pretty alright for it down at the makery, but no plates.

Gotcha!  I'll look for some plate.  Can you cut it if I find a bigger piece?

Yea, I think we should be able to get it cut down to size.

I found a scrap of 11GA that is about 4-3/8" x 10" usable (it has some notched corners and a hang hole beyond the 10" length).  I can bring it over on Sunday if you can wait until then.
