Just a quick reminder for tomorrow night's meeting, happening at the
Makery at 7pm. If you need directions, you can
check the website.
We'll be getting a presentation from Kevin and Brandon on how to safely operate the new lathe, now located at the Makery.
We'll also be hearing from Patrick on the feasibility of either buying or building a laser cutter, and some of the fundraising options available for that.
Last Sunday's Settlers [of Catan] Sunday was a great success, with 10 people turning up to participate. We played several games of Settlers of Catan, and another group tried out Knightmare Chess 2. This will probably be a recurring event, so stay tuned if this sort of thing interests you.
If you're looking to get more involved with the group, there are a number of opportunities to volunteer (aka projects people think would be good to have done, but lack either the expertise or time to do them), many of which include sorting parts or a bit of light construction (of some new workbenches / tables). There are also project ideas involving electronics, software, website, etc.
The Omaha Maker Group will have a booth at the 2012 Nebraska Robotics Expo at the SAC Museum on February 18th. If you're a people person and are interested in helping to represent the Group at the event, please see either Kevin or Eric at tomorrow's meeting. We have a few volunteers already, but more may be needed, depending on the hours of the expo (which are TBA at this time)
If you paid your dues a year in advance, your year is almost up. Initial "full" dues were collected at the Febuary 2011 meeting, and would be due again two weeks from tomorrow, February 7th. If you're not sure what the status of your dues is, you can contact
fin...@omahamakergroup.org (or see Jess at tomorrow's meeting) to find out. You can also streamline your dues-paying process by
signing up for autopay (through Paypal) on the website.
As always, if you haven't been to the Makery in a while (or ever), we're a friendly group. Come check out a meeting, and have a look around. Guests are more than welcome. There's always something new, and the official meeting part is usually just the beginning. Hope to see everyone tomorrow night.
