Not Maker related, but since I enjoy hanging out with everyone, I wanted to see if anyone had interest in indoor rock climbing. UNO has a climbing wall in their Rec Center. I used to climb when I lived in Atlanta, and on this recent trip back, I got a few hours in on the wall. Would like to get back into it, but its not something you can easily do alone.

Anyone?

I'd be up for it if someone else organizes the details and it isn't too expensive. Not sure I have appropriate footwear though.

There's a wall out at Life Time Fitness, but I don't know what the hours are, how busy it is, or how much it costs to get in to use it. I know you don't have to be a member (and if you need your hair cut, what you pay at the hair salon there also pays for day-access to the facility, this is great for pretending like you're getting in shape).

If you are into climbing, when the weather is nice you can climb those silo’s  you see from the interstate that have the changing art work on them.  There is a group that usually gets together on Sunday, the provide all of the equipment and everything, it’s pretty epic, and beats a rock wall.

I have been meaning to check that out for a while. and Ive heard good things about it.
The fee is $7 for a day pass for non-students/faculty, and I think you need someone who is to get you in the door.
We do have a few members who are, so finding someone to let you in shouldnt be a big deal.
I would be interested in joining as well. Probably on the weekends would be best.

That silo climb sounds fun as well. will have to check it out when the weather gets better.

Count me in if you go. I'm curious to check out the improvements to the facilities. I used to work at UNO's Outdoor Venture Center in the early 90's.

I'd definitely be in for some rock climbing if the price and schedule was right.

I'm down.  Incidentally, I once asked the SILO folks about what they're doing with the interior of those things. Turns out they are doing nothing, so if we ever strike it rich and want to make that our secret mad scientist lab, there's a spot.  For now its all rat droppings and bitter cold. :)

I work at UNO, but don't have a gym membership there (it costs a lot per month). However, I do have a faculty/staff ID card, and could attempt to get you in as guests for the $7 entrance rate.  I took a yoga class there last semester and had sign-in permission to the facility for class time only, so some of the desk workers might recognize me -  not sure if we would be turned away at the door, though....

Ill call UNO when I get back in town, and get the specifics. Then I'll repost an update.

Glad there are interested folks! Thanks!

I go to the UNO rock climbing wall regularly (and am not a student or staff). The wall is the only part of the gym that is open to the public without the requirement of being with a student or staff. It costs $7 per entry. Once in the gym you need to take a belay certification class or test out. The class and the test out are the same price (I think $10) and you need to at least test out every semester. There is also additional cost for renting equipment (like $3 for shoes and $5 for a harness and $1 each for a carabiner and belay device). There is no belay certification and no equipment (other than the recommended shoes) required to use the bouldering wall.

The silos are cool but there is some drama between the owner and the city of omaha that may result in no more climbing. You can read some about it on their facebook page "SILO extreme outdoor adventures".

I've been to lifetime fit a couple of times. Their wall is nice, but $60 a month (or more) membership for the gym if I only want to use the wall is steep and is all the way across town from where I live. UNO has a cooler wall (and a dedicated bouldering wall) and is pay-as-you-go which suits me well.
