Saw this in hackaday this morning, http://hackaday.com/2013/03/05/finally-a-machine-that-makes-cheap-3d-printer-filament/
A machine that takes pellets and turns it into usable filament.

So next we need a desktop rotor shear to turn discarded prints into pellets to go into the extruder.

It'll be interesting to see what sorts of issues crop up as people start recycling printed plastic.
