Hi devs,

Is it suitable to use omaha today? There are no more commits, bugs are
not resolved, and rebranding is really hell (some unit tests always
fail, hardcoded Google URLs, etc...). There is even no official
support for new Visual Studio and having 2005 installed and working is
painful. Today when I saw Issue 50 (No Windows 8 support) I started to
be really worried about omaha and I'm not sure whether to use it or
not.

So I just wonder why omaha is not updated, fixed, and why there is
basically no public work done. I remember a promise like 3-4 months
ago about a new release, but nothing happened. I send a few patches,
but no one was reviewed or applied and I have basically no answer from
the core team.

Best,
Petr

Petr, I apologize for not applying the patch. I am sorry.

Let me summarize the issue we need to address that we could actually do something about:
  1. update the source code
  2. resolve the bugs
  3. compiler support
The rebranding is more challenging.

Hi Sorin,

I can reserve some of my time to make rebranding simpler, but still I
need to know that it will be reviewed and committed. Because to be
honest the whole thing is not for one/two days, writing and testing
some simple server, running omaha unit tests and fixing them to work
with rebranded product is really long-time task. In addition, there is
much more, some Google URLs hardcoded to Google and used by the unit
tests, etc...

Thanks,
Petr
