My husband and I will be moving to the Tulsa area soon. We are
trying to gain info about the schools in and around Broken Arrow.
We have two children, ages 16 and 11, and want them to have an
easy move during this change. THey currently attend a small
school. Any info about this area would be greatly appreciated!
THANKS!
Cinda
If you are already committed to living in Broken Arrow, you're out of
luck. Broken Arrow is served by two of the largest and fastest
growing school systems in the state, namely Union Schools and Broken
Arrow Schools. Both districts have avoided splitting their high
schools geographically as they have expanded, splitting by grade level
instead.
Union is the third-largest high school in the state. The district has
10 elementary (K-5) schools, which all feed into a single track
through a 6th/7th grade center, and 8th grade center, an intermediate
high school (9th and 10th), and a high school (11th and 12th).
Broken Arrow has the largest high school in the state. The district
has 14 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, two intermediate high
schools, and one senior high school.
If you want a small high school, you'll have to move out a ways, or
send your kids to a private school. Suburban growth in Tulsa has
mainly been to the southeast, so you wouldn't have to go as far away
to find a small school in any other direction. If you're working in
Broken Arrow, Catoosa and Coweta are fairly close. You can find newer
subdivisions in both districts. If you're working near the airport,
Collinsville would be an easy commute and Oologah, Sperry, and
Skiatook would be within reason. If you're working downtown, you
might want to look at Berryhill or Mannford.
Every couple of years the state high school sports association (OSSAA)
reclassifies its 471 member schools (which includes some private
schools) based on average daily membership for grades 9-12. A new
classification was done within the last month. Here are the numbers
for schools in the Tulsa metro area. Private schools are marked with
an asterisk, although many private schools are members of the OSSAA
and so are not listed.
