Hello, STEM collaborators!
I regret that a last-minute client meeting will keep me from sharing this in person with you today, but Dani agreed I should send it in advance of today’s meeting, because we want you to know about this!
The INTERalliance of Greater Cincinnati is presenting/producing our third annual “TechOlympics Expo 2012” at the Millennium Hotel on March 2-4, 2012. Two student flyers and the sponsor “ask” flyer are attached for your info.
Quick facts:
· 3 days, two nights at the Millennium Hotel for high school students in the Greater Cincinnati / Northhern Kentucky region.
· 16 High tech competitions, a technology/STEM showcase, career fair with employer/college exhibits, breakout sessions for students and teachers.
· The students attend representing their own high school. Expecting 500-1,000 students, representing 40-50 regional high schools.
· Schools compete to win gold, silver, bronze “medals”, and overall winner gets keep the “INTERalliance Cup” trophy for a year (currently with Summit Country Day from 2011).
· Cost per student = $150 (hotel, all meals, all fees). Scholarships/financial aid available to those who ask.
· Recruiting sponsors now. Expecting 30+ companies to donate and volunteer, including Kroger, GE, P&G, Great American Insurance, KnowledgeWorks, Atos, Scripps, etc.
· Competitions include
o Hacker Heaven
o Speed Texting / Speed Keyboarding
o LEGO Robotics (with iSPACE)
o Wii Tennis, Super Smash Brothers, Rock Band, Mario Kart
o Numbskull Academic Super Quiz
o Speed Coding
o ArtTech Graphic Design Competition
o Best Cincy High School Yearbook, Newspaper, Website
· TechOlympics SHOWCASE is 15 minutes for a 5-25 student team from a school to show off a project they’ve been working on in 1 of 9 categories (Web Design, Engineering IT, Videography, Social Media, etc.)
· Breakout sessions on careers in STEM and IT, 3-D animation, robotics, mobile apps, cool new technology.
How you can participate:
· Be a “celebrity judge” for the TechOlympics Showcase
· Be a discussion facilitation for the “IT and You” roundtable discussions with students
· Be a volunteer to help manage the conference
· Set up an exhibit in the “Careers Exhibit Hall”
· Help facilitate a breakout session
· Be a conference sponsor ($100 - $25,000)
· Sponsor a team of students or kids who can’t afford the $150 registration fee
