Hi Michael,

Here are links to my public files in my Dropbox.

The Eclipse source project folder (9mb):

The executable jar files for Mac and Linux (Lion and Mint, respectively and 2.2mb each):

A combo of the above 3 files in one zip (12.8mb):

I can't thank you all enough. As I said last night, I'm only looking for people to just try the application out for a few minutes or so. I don't expect people to spend lots of time on this. I just need some feedback about usability, features, impressions (what people like, don't like, etc) and any general comments anyone may have.

The files are linked above from my public dropbox folder. If anyone wants, the Eclipse project source is there too for perusing and critique (and I don't mind critique, please feel free to tell me what you think).

My email is sau...@mail.uc.edu

I know there are bugs. Just let me know what happened so I can fix it. Other than that, thank you all for the assistance, from both me and Profs. McMahon and Said.

Gratefully,

Jim Sauve

Jim,

I just ran the jar. The first couple things I noticed:

  • When opening an existing PHP file, white space gets removed from the beginning on lines. This effectively removes all indentation from my file.
  • When opening a second file, I have to start from my home directory rather than opening in the same directory as the current active file. When there are multiple file open, open in the parent of the active file seem like a good choice
  • It feel like the function reference pane should have a find-as-you-type feature.
  • There isn't much syntax highlighting.
  • Opening a block comment ("/*") causes the app to freeze for a 5-10 seconds. This may be do it regex inefficiency rather than a code bug.
  • After the experiencing the comment freeze issue, the cursor is returned to the beginning of the file. Without syntax highlighting or a find feature, it was a little hard to find where I started the block comment which caused the freeze.
I hop to get a change to play with it a little more. Looks like you are off to a good start.
