Hello everyone. I am very new here and I appreciate you letting me
join this highly respectable group. I have joined, because I am doing
some background work on my Great-Great Grandfather, Ephraim Adamson.
He was a Private in Lincoln's Union Light Guard. He was very close to
Lincoln and his family and when the barn burned down containing the
Lincoln Children's pony, he went around to many of his comrads and
took up a collection and bought another pony for the children. They
say he often times rode the children around on his shoulders and
played with them. He was somewhat of a scholar and helped the children
with their schoolwork. He was very saddened with all the men of the
Union Light Guard when Lincoln was shot. He was asked by the family,
(so I have been told), to be one of the guards to Lincoln's casket.
Since he was just a private, did not have a sword and was given one by
one of the officers. I believe he stood guard, even with the 21 day
journey to Springfield, IL. I was given his sword in 1965 and still
have it today. It is from about 1858 or so Officer's cavalry sword
from the Ames MFG. Co in Chicoppee, MA. I was hoping I could find any
photos of him doing guard duty wearing the sword, or any info other
than what I have, which is not much. My sister has boxes of photos of
him, and other relatives, but claims she lost them and that means
forever. I would love to hear from someone on this subject, if you
have any info for me.
Thank you.

Thank you. I read the whole article and his name was mentioned twice,
but only that he was a member, no photos. It was a very interesting
article and I enjoyed it a lot. Are there any links to photos that you
know of? Thank you again.
