> Jason Brown was postmaster of Smithfield, Jefferson County, Ohio. He wrote a letter to Adjutant General Buckingham requesting permission to recruit a company. In another letter he said it would not be profitable to report at the requested date as it would take much more time since the men were so scattered about. He finally mustered in in Dec. 1861. Evidently he was not able to recruit an entire company as Company G was comprised of men from both Jefferson and Knox counties.
