| According to the list of pension records they have at National Archives there is no record of a Harry Hallsted in the 47th Ohio Volunteer Infantry but there are pension records on James W. Hallsted and Peter Hallsted. James started out as a private in Company E of the 47th O.V.I. but was promoted to 1st lieutenant in Company K. Peter also was in Company E. According to the National Park Service's Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System listings Peter was at first a corporal and then got promoted to sergeant. There was only a pension for a widow listed for Peter and they have him as a member of Company E, although the CWSSS lists him as being in both Company E and K. |
Is it possible that Harry's first name is Henry? I searched the 1860 U.S.
Census for Blanchester, Clinton, OH and did not find a Harry.
This is a good mystery!
