Gentle reader,
You are invited to be our guest for The First Annual Bunker Hill Film
Festival, an historic Art Deco theater tour and free screening at the
1931 Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro on Sunday, May 18, at 4:30pm.
(Or maybe 5pm. The event will commence after the Backbeats Beatles
tribute show, which starts at 2pm and will last no more than three
hours. If we have to wait a few minutes to start, it will be in good
company.)
The First Annual Bunker Hill Film Festival will begin with a short
tour of the Warner Grand's exquisite interior. Then we will go next
door to the screening room at Grand Vision's headquarters, where we
will watch the strange, wonderful and almost-entirely-filmed-on-
location-on-Bunker-Hill 1962 independent film "Angel's Flight." Yes,
"Angel's Flight," the story of a young lady of Bunker Hill who turns
to expressionist painting, nude go-go dancing and murder to work
through the trauma of the loss of her innocence.
Since the film is rather short and Bunker Hill a subject of infinite
fascination, we will be opening the floor to guests who arrange to
provide short presentations on the Bunker Hill theme—historic film
clips, an original short film, a photo slide show—as long as it's on
DVD and not too long, just email me to reserve your spot in the
evening's program. Already scheduled in the short subjects category is
acclaimed Quebecois pinscreen animator Jacques Drouin's astonishing
stop-action animated UCLA student short, filmed on Angels Flight as
the bulldozers were ripping down the hill.
We also have a small stage and can accommodate short presentations,
spoken word, live murder re-enactments or even interpretive dance, on
the subject of our beloved Bunker Hill. Crimebo the Clown has
something special planned, and Joan Renner will be giving a
presentation on the types of cosmetics preferred by murderesses and
their victims on old Bunker Hill.
If interested in attending, kindly RSVP with a head count. We have
room for about 70 people, and while this is a free event, ask that you
be accurate with your RSVP and let us know should you need to cancel.
Non-messy snacks are permitted in the screening room, and we hope that
you'll bring something tasty to share.
yrs,
Kim
