helppppp i lost my phone with telus that i signed up for 3 mths, and
still gotta pay bell termination fee. i don't know what telus will
charge me. probably $600 over my monthly check. i have hight
functioning ASD, ADD and depression. ASD is autism spectrum disorder.
the anxiety level is too high for me right now and im drowning in
debt. i'm very depressed over it and can't function. i have no check
left and i don't think ODSP likes clients in debt from the stories i
heard. oh and i lost my bus pass and never called them. i'm to scared.

i would always say honesty is the best policy however it has not gotten me anywhere good recently.

Tell them telus people the truth.

Not quite following everything here Judy.
You lost a Telus phone.....then why does Bell want money from you? Did
you cancel a phone with them too?

First like the other person said be honest with Telus and see if they
can give you another phone, the cheapest they have, so you can fulfill
the contract with them.

Second if the Bell phone issue is a previous phone that you didn't
fulfill the year(s) payments/contract with, then yes they can demand
the whole amount of money left on the contract.
If you still have that phone advertise for someone to take over the
phone and contract and that might end that problem.

Third, if you lost your bus pass, call the transit authority and tell
them and get a new card. I'm sure your not the first person to have
lost one.
Don't be scared. The worst they can say is NO, once you know that you
can get the nerve up to ask them anything.

Next why do you keep losing things? Have a spot on your counter where
you leave the phone at night with the charger nearby so it has a
"home" and you know where it goes.
With your transit card leave it in your wallet until you need it, then
it has a home and you know where it should be.

Be calm, take deep breaths, and call all of the companies now and find
out exactly how much is left on your Bell contract; what can Telus do
to help when you've lost the phone; and to replace your transit card.
Someone could have your phone and be running up all kinds of long
distance charges on it. You need to let Telus know NOW it's missing.
Let them know exactly the day you lost it so they can check and see if
someone has been using it.

Relax this happens to lots of people. Now just deal with one thing at
a time and find out their answers for things.

I would be honest and say you're a low income person and you need to
be put on monthly payments to Bell.

That happens to everyone who doesn't fulfill a contract.

Will you have enough to get by this month?

Maybe ODSP can give you the Community Start-Up to help with your
living costs but I doubt they would pay the cell-phone bill as it's
not a necessity.

Don't panic. You'll be okay. If worst comes to worst, your credit
will be hit.

But so many people have bad credit scores now in this economy that you
should be fine.

I have a cell phone as if I am waiting for para transpo and they
don't show up I can call for help. I bought mine at Loblaws.

I switched to Comwave as bell was too costly. I pay 14.95 per month
and that includes messages, call waiting, etc.

Bell did not charge me a termiination fee. I don't see how ODSP
dislikes clients in debt when the benefit is half of the poverty line.
My rent is 800 a month and ODSP gives you 464. I went to a credit
counselling service and when they added everytghing I was over 500
short a month. Where does ODSP think the extra comes from. After I've
paid rent, phone, internet, I have 100 left over to buy food, pay
bills. A 'nutritiuos food basket in Ottawa is over 200 a month.

I bought my cell phone from Loblaws. You can buy top up cards for 15 ,
25, and there is no contract.

i've got probably the best internet / phone deal you can get, yet
nobody listens to me and flock to the big carriers. I only use the
phone to call for appointments and emergency, and I am a heavy
internet user. I am on year at a time payments with Acanac, I get
DSL without a phoneline from bell and it works out to under $30 a
month including the line fee. Freephoneline.ca charges $50 for setup
i believe, and after that you pay for long distance and services (it
connects to your internet)

I am shocked at all the people with cell phones, full cable, rogers
home phone, bell phone lines, light internet products that are made
artificially slow.

Just did some checking on Freephoneline.ca and I am leaning toward
adding a stamp of support to this VoIP offering. There are still a
few questions I have before we would make a jump from our current VoIP
provider but for a basic service it looks great. Keep in mind that
it is a softphone or VoIP service and requires that you have High
Speed Internet access along with some / small basic knowledge of how
networks work. There are many providers of VoIP service now and the
costs are all over the place - this is one area where the old adage of
you get what you pay for really applies. In short VoIP can be a
fantastic replacement for Ma Bell and the exorbitant fees charged by
the "old" phone companies. We have been using VoIP service for about
5 years now and have seen a great improvement in the service.

Hey, My Ma Bell also includes the internet. I am wondering if I were to get rid of Ma Bell,
internet included, and instead use a wireless attenna/card and receive a wireless
connection; (which might not always be mine, but one which I have permission to surf with)
would a voip number still work for me? In a nut shell, is it possible to use a voip phone
with a "free" wireless connection?

or would I have to - for whatever reason - need to own that wireless connection for login
purposes or what have you....

thanks for any replies. everyone.

oh, and then there is the service charge Bell will charge you if you
don't give them 30 days disconnection notice.

My friend was will Bell and Cogeco took them in and guess what. Bell
charged her with something like $35 or something for not notifying
Bell in advance4.

Just take note, if you do leave Ma.

This is not like Magic Jack. MJ is a form of VoIP but performs quite
differently. With MJ you must have your computer On and logged in to
the internet or it wont work. MJ I have been lead to believe also
uses your bandwidth allotments. Full VoIP setups are supposed to
sidestep your bandwidth limitations.

The key to full VoIP is having High Speed (over 6 mb transfer rate on
download) internet access.

911 calls are handled a bit differently as they are double routed and
depend on you keeping your contact information updated and correct
with your provider.

i had the mytime $25 package over 10 yrs ago with the best phone then.

it came out to $29 monthly, unlimited everything.

I lost job, went broke, lost package.

I know a guy who bought 3 lines and has sold two of them for $4,000 each.   Bell needs to honor the deal as long as you are alive and pay.

I've -seen- that magic jack advertised and -did- really like the idea of it; it never occured to me that I could use that as my voip phone with a wireless connection. When you mention the quality of the service; that it depends on the speed of the connection - I wonder how exactly, the magic jack would be affected by speed. Oh well, all in all I am very happy to hear I have an alternative to dang Bell and it's outrageously HIGH bills. My rent goes up, without fail, every year by about 15 - 20 buks, but my cheque income does not. in essence, one could say that the Onario government is taking 20$ away from my income every year; same goes for hydro etc. Well, if they aren't recognising the cost of living in establishing our monthly amount, then we might as well look at it this way.

It certainly would. You need a broadband connection  (it won't work
with dial up)
You can also make free calls with your Gmail account until the end of

the $50 charge for me is to transfer a line, I clarified that - my
voip provider is shutting down and moving his customers to
freephoneline. I have a linksys PAP2T box that can do 2 lines of
voip, and can also power a whole house's phone system if you wire it
up properly, takes a bit of fiddling and its not really the best box
to use - i've had problems. If the person has a wireless router
with UPNP enabled, some of the sip boxes and software are capable of
getting it to forward port 506x and the rtp ports, or a really short
retry time to get it to be able to still ring through the firewall.
I'm not saying its a good idea to jack someone else's internet
though, the best bet is to just get one of the $15 a month DSL plans
that are hitting the market, and pay the $8 a month for a dry loop to
get out of bell. Its a good time to get into a DSL contract with
an "unlimited" plan right now because this is the last chance to
really get grandfathered into the new very expensive metered internet
that is coming in the next few months. netflix is in canada now and
its a fairly cost-effective way to get media, with a cheap unlimited
DSL line and netflix with boxee connected to a TV, its a great way to
save a TON of money and still get decent, current entertainment.
Unfortunately the entire media apparatus that got harper elected is
going to be coming down hard to make sure their expensive and annoying
repetitive ad filled offerings are forced onto every canadian.
Its rough when you are at the bottom of the income food chain to
leverage out a low monthly cost on these things, but it is
possible.

Hi there
A couple things: sorry for this long email.
CRTC rebate for telephone landline's does everyone know of this and
are we getting anything back or is it January as crtc said they have
until.

Cell phones for complaints and fixes
http://www.howardforums.com/forum.php?s=d0feb6e2cf0981cba72ffde48bf5e99c
This is the best website and Bell things are listed on there -
actually almost all providers of tv and cell and other things are
there for you to rant rave and get resolution help from. I have a good
bell mobility plan just not a good cell phone -its got all features
covered and some unlimited text web etc ..but not a data plan and I
think that is discounted on the plan along with the tv function - ask
me if you wish more information on corporate plans- no I do not work
for them -they would never let me - with the many times I have made
them fix things. My dream wish is to have a blackberry a modern cell
phone with everything on it for the sake of homecare and other sending
me requests it would make life so much easier and for the organizing.
I should try to ask someone to offer an odsp rate if they can offer
teachers a special plan why not odsp canada wide more customers for
them you would think.
The only problem I see with my plan is the DAYTIME minutes they are
200 then they gave me another 200 daytime minutes for each month for
12 months but for some weird reason there is high billing over time
use. I have been with them quite a while but I do call them when Im
bored or babysitting dog walking to ask questions -call it hyper
adhd. Talking to people in the Mississauga office is best not
anywhere else. I ask are you in Mississauga Bell Mobility and try to
get transfered to them if possible. My guess re minutes used up during
daytime: its when I direct dial the office of BELL CANADA "anything"
as in the executive offices 1800 416 what ever to their offices to
complain or negotiate a better deal or justify an over charge for me
or someone else -as in the minutes are swallowed up fast that are free
during the month - never were before- that is making me wonder - what
is causing the over use?
Otherwise I have a corporate plan - everything is unlimited for under
30.00 a month plus tx yes free voice mail call waiting text messages
web picture messages and more - I also had them add the evenings
starting at 6pm to 08am but found out they did a switch without
telling me - and the morning is cut off not at 08am but !! 07am so
that could be the problem right there I will call about and ask that
it be changed back to what was agreed to 0800 am not earlier cutoff of
0700am -if you dont ask you will never know if you could have had
things. I did email or call alot of time - have had many things
credited or corrected and compensated - but it is work as in you have
to have time to sit on the phone or cell phone and talk to them and
justify why the charge or discount should be there and for heavens
sake right notes dates and times and id of who you talk to - do not
loose your nice calm talking tone dont loose your patience or cool.
Pretend you've got nothing else to do - make it a challenge to
yourself to walk or sit with the phone until they take your call and
ask for a supervisor nicely saying you feel you need to get a
surpervisors help - and tell them after 45minutes you'd be fired if
you took this long on your break or lunch to call them -they tend to
connect and realize that does make sense and try to resolve the
problems quicker. Rogers is the same I have the contact name for them
also if anyone does wish it for over billing or problems there.
I do all notes on my computer do not delete them and send them to your
selve in an email that is where I do the notes in email form - then I
copy them to my hotmail or gmail as a backup plan in case the computer
blows up or something .There are times...I ask them to give me the
info confirmation of what changes were made later if Im trying to get
off the phone to tend other functions - of who I spoke to what when
and why how and sometimes I ask how they did the change so well and
others couldnt they tell me sometimes - and I put it all down in my
date book of who what when so I know nothing is missed and they cant
pull a stunt like they did with my mom and not give her 30% off as
promised - on her tv satelite and free renta. They high billed her and
now 2 hrs later talking to the loyalty office gave her 325.00 back
finally after I produced the date time and who what where and why - a
2 hr call but worth it I think.
LONG DISTANCE www.wordline.ca .....is what I use the long distance is
unlimited day or night talk as long as you want for canada it is its
is best to go to the website and check the price per month but I like
it and you can use the access telephone number from your landline and
cell phone so that is how I make long distance calls all over canada
on my cell phone but after 6pm when my cell phone is allowed unlimited
minutes of talk time.
Read more on the website and remember to ask and write down start up
costs
and date the money comes off your credit card or bank - to use it you
get an access number you dial first to get access to long distance
from your city to any where in Canada - as soon as it starts talking I
dial the number Im calling. I pay 4.95 a month for my mom and I each.
There is unlimited USA ? 13.95 long distance calling from there. So its
great we dont worry about any long distance on any phone now - but you
have to call them if you have any problems right away or email them.
***Just trying to help save some people money and stress sorry for
long message here take care and let me know directly if you need help
with something - thank you all for your help and advice on here really
great group.

theres a couple providers offering it for $15 right now but its old
bell 1mbit service, but still better in terms of line quality than the
really messed with traffic on rogers, esp. lite. acanac / teksaavy
resold 2.5-5mbit DSL is the lowest i'd ever mess with personally. I
think it was $19 without tax when I locked in for this year, plus the
loop fees.

Alot of it is hearsay and talking to insiders off the record, as
well as watching whats happening with the american scene. Bell has
been waiting for the opportunity to start billing the resellers by the
packet for traversal, and their own unlimited plans are done with the
move to the "fibe" service. dslreports has some info but not alot is
recent. Its all up to the next 3 months in parliament, just how far
harper is willing to go for the media companies and telecoms to buy
their support in the next election. It won't be pretty, and nothing
will get cheaper or provide better service.

I had the same prob and had to pay 500 or 600 dollars to cancel the
contract. If I didn't pay it would have put a dent in my credit.

My advice for the phone is get one that is not on a contract basis,
you buy the phone from the beginning then pay a similar monthly fee as
if you were on contract but the thing is you are not really on a
contract and you can cancel it anytime you want.

I'm not sure that I would trust a free phone service. Nothing in life is free and I firmly believe you get what you pay for. I'm staying with Ma Bell for phone and cable company for Internet. I recall years ago when Netzero was free - it sucked, painfully slow and those awful ads. No thanks, I'll pay for decent service, thank you.

Been with FPL for 2 years now and 90% up time. its completely free for
softphone and $115 for SIP ($50) info and ATA ($65). Probably saved
big time. That first time fee for SIP and ATA was the only thing i had
to worry about (initial cost). I can use it anywhere and have the same
phone number as long as I had broadband connection. check out there
forum for know problems if your that concerned but i will never pay
for a land line again. maybe a cell phone.. only any real problem is
the 911 service (didn't know your real address but knew your number)..
routed to 3 different call centers before i got a hold of the
paramedics. You get what you pay for.

been also using MJ on the ATA instead of the computer being on at all
times. at least it was there when FPL was down..
check out here for hack's and problems
http://www.magicjacksupport.com/magicjack-tips-tricks-and-hacks-f4.html

all i had to pay for was the internet ($64/m)

service for MJ ($75/ 5 yrs)
FPL (one time cost of $115)

The cost of MJ was essential when FPL was down. Plus if your internet
goes down your phone goes down. Could be the same if the power goes
out.

---------------------------------------------------------

One thing i hated about contracts and not being on one is; on a
contract they'll give you 150-200 in credits if you sign for 2 -3yrs
but if you don't get the contract you end up losing that 150-200 and
they don't credit you at the end of 2-3yrs of service as good customer
credit.. they all suck and treat you like sh!t, nickel and dim you as
much as possible... I hate rojerks, telnoone and pocket ding.

ever notice prices go up? did you get that rise?

last I checked it was the soft phone that is free - personally I use a
sip box to connect so that I can use a normal phone, also 911 service
is not neccessarily included and thats something that you don't know
you need until its too late to get in time. I've been using VOIP for
quite a while as a couple of my cronies were really early adopters and
have telco equipment, but its always been a real tradeoff, the
technology seems to be getting more stable in terms of how the
internet routes the calls but especially given half my family is
deaf, i'm partially hearing impaired and tend to mumble - all the
little things add up to pretty much the same experience as using an
older cell phone. If I shut down torrent for about 5 minutes I can
get a clear call most of the time, but during prime time even with a
clean line its choppy. I know a number of guides talk about routing
and modem buffers and various other things, but in this day and age
there is little you can do about what your ISP or upstream is doing on
your behalf. That being said, its still a better option than $29 a
month for a landline or more on a contract with a cell, I find cell
phones impossible to hear the other person on and even with pay as you
go the hidden charges ad up so fast I felt like I always avoided using
it and when I really needed it it was always empty or running out of
minutes. At least with voip its affordable and with a little
tinkering I can usually get it to work most of the time. That being
said, the number of times I receive a call and the other person just
gives up because of a delay or a stutter is definitely annoying.
Especially in some of the gov offices like ODSP they take so long to
call back and give no indication of when they will, and they try once
and rarely leave a message.

the joy of the internet is that its up to the user and their settings
to filter out what they don't want to see. censorship and jumping on
the people who contribute because you fail to understand something or
don't know how to stick to what you personally are interested in is
pretty silly. You might also note that with your clever snipe you
also reposted my message in the reply. I can remember one time in
rehab in a catholic place in windsor when a couple of the louder group
members went to the leader, and in their lowbrow opinion decided I
didn't "talk right" and used "too many big words", after hearing
that I didn't get much out of the rest of the program. I find this
pretty insulting, I tend to be longwinded but I don't like to be
misunderstood and err on the side of being verbose. Next time think
a bit before trying to rally up a few more noisy voices to shut
someone down, just because you can find friends to parrot your opinion
doesn't mean everyone feels that way, and its up to the individual to
decide which posts they want to read.

i'm not really sure what you to intended to accomplish by sniping at
me, other than to split the community and rally against me. Perhaps
you think your opinion mirrors that of everyone else, but its your
failure if you can't follow what i'm saying and have to pick a fight
over it in a public place to comfort yourself over it. Again, the
point of the internet isn't to cater to an individual's need to but to
collect diverse information and allow those who are interested or to
whom it applies the ability to access ti at their own convenience or
discretion. If it bothers you to get emailed all the different
opinions and contributions perhaps you should use your discretion to
read it in the browser or not read it at all rather than throw spite
and influence the community with the only goal being division and sub-
grouping.

It isn't related to ODSP as are many of the threads in this group
so many in fact we don't even remark them with OT.

I just delete the posts that don't interest me. The delete key does not wear out, you don't need to fear using it too much.

To get the free glasses, tonight at 12:01 go to this web and order them: clearlycontacts.ca, at the end of the order you have to put this coupon 10000FREE.
Make sure that during the day you get familiar with the web, that you will be able to write your prescription (as sometimes is difficult, and you need a certain measure that you can do it yourself) and that you choose several frames so at the time of ordering you don't waste time choosing because they go fast. They will give one pair per household and it's true. My son got free glasses from them sometime ago and he orders from this web when he runs out of contacts because they are very cheap. So don't miss on this one!
Hope that all of you that need one, be able to get them! Juliette.

You're welcome Angela. Hope you got them because the web had many problems, but with patience I got a pair for my son thank God and with beautiful and strong frames. And yes, ODSP covers glasses, but to a certain point. Plus, why ask for glasses to ODSP if an opportunity as good as this one comes in our way?, the less money we ask for things that we could get somewhere else, the more money will be available for things like special diet and another thing, ODSP covers basic glasses, in this site you could choose any frame you liked and they were some very expensive for free. I do thank you Uppity for telling me that ODSP covers glasses, but a thank you once in a while for sharing a good opportunity doesn't hurt anybody. I wasn't the only one that came with this web to this forum, but I didn't see that the other person that gave the web was thanked either. Through this letter I thank you for your generosity in sharing the link and I'm sorry I don't know who you were because my mail closed when I was reading your letter and the letter wasn't there when I opened it. If you needed glasses, I hope you got them. Juliette.

Since ODSP covers glasses, wouldn't it be better to get them that way and let someone making minimum wage (or other low wage) who doesn't have coverage for eye care get the pair you would have gotten? I believe there are only a certain number they are giving away, it's not unlimited.

BTW, please don't tell me how to post and I won't tell you how to post, k?

This offer from this company was yesterday and they had given all of them away already, and no, eye exams are not covered because they just sell glasses and were giving 10000 for free to Canadians. You had to have your own prescription by your own doctor and write it down in the web to get the glasses. It's the same as going to a store to get glasses, you always need your own doctor and prescription, only that instead of going to a store you buy it through the web. And they weren't interested in selling their glasses to anybody, they just gave them away, and some of the frames were very expensive, something that ODSP doesn't cover. I have seen people that got glasses that cost more than $300 for free, and the one I've got for my son, only the frame was over $80 so I wouldn't have been able to get them for him, plus he got glasses from ODSP last year (ODSP doesn't cover glasses every year or every time a kid looses or breaks them), lost them and he can't get others this year and he needs them for school, so for me it was a Godsend offer, that I thought many of you could have taken advantage from and that's why I posted it yesterday.
But this company from time to time continues giving away glasses, so keep the address and check it from time to time. If in the future any of you need glasses you may end up having them for free. Juliette.
