My disability was granted february 12th, after five years and twice applying. I was wondering how long will it be till i receive a check, or more importantly, the dental card? It's now the 27th and i received an OW check so i can assume it won't be this month, and i happened to chip a tooth the other day and am in need of some work, possibly from grinding my teeth for 5 years.
 Any help would be appreciated,
     Mark Lyons

Melanie,

THANK YOU ever so much for posting this. I have been in dire need of a dental clinic
to do work on my teeth for AGES now. IO keep running into "we do not accept ODSP patients
any longer. Not even my old dentist will accept me anymore.....

Sheesh you know, those conservatives are chipping away at our services and sources for
health year after year after year. Soon enough there wont be a place to even go for a shelter
overnight in the dead of winter!!

Soon we can kiss the gov sponsored soup kitchens goodbye too, that's next on the chopping
block... you just wait, it's gonna happen!

But again, THANK you so much for the info on the dental clinic on Merivale. I'm going to go
there for my filling and other minor things I need done.

All my best,

Denny -

Duff,

OMG, you made me laugh.  He's not calling, he's writing.  You should have heard how loud I laughed.

The City of Ottawa has a dental clinic on Merivale under Discretionary needs.

Call 311 or 211 (I think it is 211 that is for social services).

I've had the same problem where I live. I had to phone a few dental clinics before one, while turning me down, gave me the number of a clinic that still did accept ODSP people.

I asked her why most clinics no longer accept people on welfare or disability and she said it's two things.

People on government support are very unreliable when it comes to showing up for appointments on time and the clinic just found it to be better business by not accepting them in the first place.

The second reason was that only basic dental services were covered, the ones that aren't really profitable for the clinic. It's not worth it for a clinic to occupy slots in the schedule with patients that don't have real insurance that normal people have.

Sucks, but I guess it's just business.

Conservatives?  I thought that it was Liberals in power, not Conservatives.  And AFAIK, ODSP is provincial.  Am I missing something regarding who is in charge of ODSP.  Therefore would it be correct to say

Sheesh you know, those conservatives are chipping away at our services and sources for health year after year after year. Soon enough there wont be a place to even go for a shelter overnight in the dead of winter!!

Unless there was an election I wasn’t aware of.

AFAIK, last time Conservatives had a seat of power was more than a decade ago.

Dear Bloggy Deb,

I was referring to the Feds, they are the ones who hand out the transfer money that RUNS these social programs. Ultimately, THEY are responsible as the provinces budget the money they (the feds) doll out for social services. In this case, the feds are giving less and less each fiscal year to the provinces, forcing the provinces to cut back on whatever they can cut back on... AND... in the end, it ends up being US and the poor....

THAT'S what I was referring to. I was not referring to the provincial government in power, in fact, it doesn't MATTER who's in power in the provincial side of things, they ALL (the provinces) have to deal with the same federal cut backs in transfer payments. Think "BIG picture" here... that's where I'M at...

Cheers...

D

Hi Melanie,

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

As far as Lowell Green goes, well, he's a man I love to hate. He's a staunch right winger, but he's also a common sense guru. I know of him very well. I decided I didn't like him much anymore the day that Pierre Trudeau passed away. Lowell was shocked, as he so put it, "where the hell is all this out-pouring of love coming from for a man such as Pierre Trudeau??" He didn't have much good to say about old Pierre, and pretty much spent the entire three or four days of the funeral proceedings dishing Trudeau; pointing out all the so-called cowboy politics he apparently played up, not to mention, of course, because of his extra marital affairs etc... he was an embarrassment to our country....

So, I don't like Lowell Green's opinions, much, but I still find he is a smart man, filled with facts and figures, but has little grasp on the new Canadian-isms (for lack of a better term)

You are very well-written Denny.

I wanted to say that my dentist (where I went 2 years ago) takes ODSP patients.

Bells Corners Family Dentistry on Robertson Road. I don't have a phone number but look on www.canada411.ca.  At least 2 years ago, they took them.

As well, if you're not already listen to CFRA's Lowell Green weekdays from 10-12 p.m., you really should.  The guy is what radio needs.  Tells the truth, you would love him, talks unapologetically about government waste, scandals, human rights, taxes, etc.  Anything that is going on and should not be going on are his discussion points.  The guy is smart as a whip at 75 and he'll make you laugh.  I've been listening for a little over a year and he's about the only one in Ottawa who is mad as hell at the way things are being run into the ground.  Listen live on www.cfra.com.
