OK this thread is for setting up and fine-tuning an ODROID-focused
bulletin board/forum. Current steps are:
1. Deciding on the software to use (phpBB or Vanilla)
2. Installing the software
3. Setting up the forum (categories, etc.)
4. Localizing for various languages
You can see a preview of Vanilla here:
http://vanillaforums.org/discussions
I think PhpBB is pretty ubiquitous but if you haven't seen it here's
what one looks like:
http://www.phpbb.com/community/index.php
Either one is pretty great. Vanilla 2 isn't 100% stable but it allows
the creation of blogs, etc. phpBB is super-stable and more in line
with what most people think of when they think "forum." Vanilla is
easier for me to customize (maybe), while phpBB already has an
assortment of themes and modifications.
If we go with Vanilla we could probably even make it the front page of
hardkernel.com. Since it includes blog functionality we could also set
it up so the Hard Kernel folks can post updates now and then (such as
new product announcements.) If not that's fine too.
We (ladvan91 and/or myself) will have to eventually get the
credentials to install the software on the
hardkernal.com server.
Now, for the categories I think we should keep it simple. Like this:
- Announcements + Rules
- ODROID Discussion
- ODROID-T Discussion
- Software Development
- Off Topic? Maybe?
Or something like that. If you have more ideas please post them.
One thing I need to ask is are we going to keep this Google group?
Probably not.
