OK this thread is for setting up and fine-tuning an ODROID-focused
bulletin board/forum. Current steps are:

1. Deciding on the software to use (phpBB or Vanilla)
2. Installing the software
3. Setting up the forum (categories, etc.)
4. Localizing for various languages

You can see a preview of Vanilla here: http://vanillaforums.org/discussions

I think PhpBB is pretty ubiquitous but if you haven't seen it here's
what one looks like: http://www.phpbb.com/community/index.php

Either one is pretty great. Vanilla 2 isn't 100% stable but it allows
the creation of blogs, etc. phpBB is super-stable and more in line
with what most people think of when they think "forum." Vanilla is
easier for me to customize (maybe), while phpBB already has an
assortment of themes and modifications.

If we go with Vanilla we could probably even make it the front page of
hardkernel.com. Since it includes blog functionality we could also set
it up so the Hard Kernel folks can post updates now and then (such as
new product announcements.) If not that's fine too.

We (ladvan91 and/or myself) will have to eventually get the
credentials to install the software on the hardkernal.com server.

Now, for the categories I think we should keep it simple. Like this:

- Announcements + Rules
- ODROID Discussion
- ODROID-T Discussion
- Software Development
- Off Topic? Maybe?

Or something like that. If you have more ideas please post them.

One thing I need to ask is are we going to keep this Google group?
Probably not.

HI,
I've creadocon Vanilla, I'm defining all the parameters,
categories, ...
How do language support? Comments?
In a while I will have half an operational version, for now and until
terminated only allow the registration of members by invitation.

Regards,
Alvaro

Hi,

The forum can be found at: http://odroid.vanillaforums.com/

Still missing much, just created the figure of the moderator and I
have given permission
You have to write the rules of the forum, Andrex, send an e-mail to my
mail that appears here and I give all the necessary permits and your
password.

In my opinion it is better done within the server Vanilla and so do
not crowd the of Hardkernel.

We carry items and posted right here?

Regards,

Alvaro

Oh nice. Yeah I was talking about the open source version, but this is
good too I guess. Instead of e-mailing stuff you could just change the
registration type to "Approval." (Go to the Dashboard, then under
Users there should be a Registration link.) Then just approve me when
I apply and change my role to Administrator.

I'll look over the support they have for localization.

Oh wait a second! VanillaForums.com is running Vanilla 1.2 right? I'm
used to Vanilla 2. If we have the opportunity to install that I think
it could work out great for integrating the site any everything.

Anyways get back to me. Thanks.

Wow, you seem to have put everything in place already. What do you
want to do now? Add all the discussions from here to there?

Thanks.

Is it possible grab all data in "http://odroid.vanillaforums.com/" to our
server later?

BTW, it looks great!.
It seems to be more friendly UI than phpBB.

Thanks,
-Justin-

I do not know very well, but if we speak with Vanilla, sure in the end
we let.

I just write the rules of the forum, what do you think? Something you
changed?
already the world can register only thing left is relayed some topics
of interest and put a couple of links.

Justin, please, you can register and put him the position of
Administrator

Thanks,

Alvaro

the forum was giving a lot of stability problems and allowed languages
(just html), I'm creating one with many more options in a while
everything will be migrated from one to another

Hi,

We must choose between the two forums:

http://odroid.vanillaforums.com/ has probelmas compatibility (only
accepts html and can not be modified or the subject or anything
unrelated to the forum), but it is much safer

http://odroid.foros-phpbb.com/forum.htm the new forum, has allowed all
languages can be much faster post videos and photos, has room for
accommodation (for images, videos, documents, ... ), you can modify
the code for each display, but is not as safe as other

Both are created can be deleted which termianr choose and the other
but one must know the limitations that have both.

Opinions?

Thanks,
Alvaro

I think the phpbb has more user friendly interface for community.
The Vanilla looks like a blog and more fancy.

I prefer phpbb.

I don't understand why PhpBB is not safe as Vanilla.
Can you explain kindly?

Thanks,
-Justin-

phpBB just has some stories attached to it about security, but that's
probably because it's older and more well-known than Vanilla.

Anyways Vanillaforums.com only allows HTML yes but the .org open
source version you can make full templates. Something to keep in mind.
But I don't expect that Vanilla's language (English, Korean, etc.)
support to be better than phpBB. phpBB has been around much longer and
can probably handle that much better.

Do we want a custom phpBB skin? I might be able to do something ODROID-
themed.

Also, is that the host we want to use for phpBB? Or do we want another
one? Or dedicated?

There's parts of both Vanilla and phpBB I like. Whichever we go with
is fine.

Okay, I understood.
We may need to make more frequent/automated backups if we use phpBB.
And I really want to see something ODROIDy themed. :)

BTW, should we make the polls for voting?
In fact, I don't know which one is better. Vanilla and phpBB.....

Hi,

As Justin says, you have to back up a little more frequent (monthly).
I prefer phpBB (http://odroid.foros-phpbb.com/forum.htm)
The voting begins today and ends the 14th at 12:00 (GMT) as the result
will erase the forum that fewer votes you have and teminare other.

Thanks,

Alvaro

I made a poll topic: http://odroid.foros-phpbb.com/announcements-and-rules-f2/forum-poll-t8.htm

However I think you need to register to vote. So everyone reading
this, please register on phpBB! :D

Ladvan if you could give me admin/theming rights I can look at getting
started on the theme. Thanks.

Hi,

I've just visited and found the green color theme of Google Android.
It looks great and fun.

There is new video of Odroid-T.
http://odroid.foros-phpbb.com/odroid-t-discussion-f3/odroid-t-videos-t10.htm
This videos shows 1080p H.264 and WMV(VC1) playback capability of S5PC110.

Please join the forum and enjoy~

Special thanks to Alvaro!!

Hi,

The forum has been completed, When will the hardkernel main page, or
does it believe that something needs to be improved?

Thanks,
