Reverse Carbon Canyon Century

Saturday, May 11, 7:30 A.M.

79 Miles with 3,400 Feet of Climbing

98 Miles with 4,300 Feet of Climbing

106 Miles with 4,900 Feet of Climbing

In 2010, we tried the Reverse Carbon Canyon Century for the first time.  “We all agreed: this is a TOTALLY different ride than the original Carbon Canyon Century … we were blown away seeing so many things that we never saw before!!  Live Oak Canyon was really nice early in the morning.  We were shocked to see lots of things we never saw before!!

Those are some steep pitches on the switchbacks climbing back up Carbon Canyon with a couple of pieces of 10% but the climb is over before you know it.

We got some good heat training and spent an hour in temps above 90 degrees.  I spent 31 minutes with my HR > 170 BPM so this was a good workout.  My HAC4 recorded 5,161 Feet of Climbing compared to Carbon Canyon Centuries with 4,970 Feet on 4/21/09 and 5,030 Feet on 2/10/08.”

So let’s go ride this one again.  I need some distance and some climbing.

Weather.com is forecasting Chino Hills to be 60 - 84 on Saturday at

http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Chino+Hills+CA+USCA0216

Let me know if you can make it by replying to this e-mail. If there isn't enough interest in this ride, I may cancel it by announcing the cancellation on this e-mail list on Friday.

The route sheet for the Reverse Carbon Canyon Century is at

http://www.caltriplecrown.com/Centuries/CarbonCanyonCenturyReverse.xls

This route has many opportunities to turn back if a shorter distance is desired ... so come join us whether you want to ride 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles ... or anything in between.

This ride will start at “The Square” (formerly Foodpark) in Irvine at Main and MacArthur (TBM 859-G4/28-C3) at 7:30 A.M. sharp so you should arrive by 7:15 A.M. Main and MacArthur is near the intersection of the San Diego Freeway (405) and the Newport (55) Freeway. Take the MacArthur Blvd. exit from the San Diego (405) Freeway and turn North ... Main Street is the first street Northeast of the 405 Freeway. Meet in the Parking Lot behind the Starbucks.

See you then,

Chuck Bramwell

I lost sight of the group on Plano Trabuco after staying politely behind a few cars at the last left turn. The group must have been flying through Trabuco Canyon because I never saw them again. I was drained coming out on Jamboree and so headed back. 57 miles.

Dennis

Great riding with you today - Loved the 100 degree temps up Chino Hills Pwky a lot cooler than 112 degrees last year

Rod - you had it going up Brea Canyon and Diamond Bar Blvd but you turned right at Grand instead of left and we could not stop you - hope the rest of the ride worked out for you

Chuck - thanks for organizing the ride and the water at the Country Store by Plano Trabuco

Thanks

Bruce Campbell

When I finally got to the top of Grand and I realized my mistake, I talked to some cyclists resting in the shade and they pointed me in the right direction to Chino Parkway. I stopped at McDonalds for 5 minutes, then decided I better take off before it gets any hotter. Hope everybody had a good ride.
I wanted to get home by 3pm so I could mow the lawn. 110 miles.
