low or no-cost groundtruthed data sets?

I found the list of data sets on the
http://code.google.com/p/ocropus/wiki/Contributed page, but UW-III is
a couple of hundred USD, and I can't find the google 1000 dataset
online anywhere. Can anyone give me a pointer there?

Uhh, <sheepish/> yeah, I see now that the MARG data is all groundtruth
data for training/evaluating OCR systems. Sorry for the noise.
