++ AGENDA FOR THIS WEEK’S MEETING

Our 12 noon luncheon for Wednesday, January 25th will be held at
Italiano’s restaurant, 4801 North Lincoln in OKC. Our first speaker is
a mystery speaker and will take only about 5 minutes to share an
important situation. Our main speaker will be Jenni White, founder and
Executive Director of Reform Oklahoma Public Education (ROPE). In
addition, I will make a proposal to our members for consideration to
take OCPAC to a higher level. I will only be speaking in conceptual
terms, we will probably vote on February 1st to change our by-laws,
based on the discussion this Wednesday, feedback and our ability to
fully think through what has to be done to bring it to a vote of our
dues paying members. Don’t miss this week’s meeting as it, along with
so many other meetings are always full of important and substantive
information.

++ ANNOUNCEMENTS

* TUESDAY EVENING - EDMOND AREA - Our good friend Stuart Jolly,
State Director of Americans For Prosperity, has organized and is
sponsoring a forum regarding school choice. It will be tonight,
January 24th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the University of Central
Oklahoma’s Constitution Hall, located in the Nigh Center in Edmond.
Tickets are free, but it is preferred folks register at www.putkidsfirst.com.
On the panel tonight will be former Congressman J.C. Watts, State
Senator Gary Stanislawski (R-Tulsa), State School Superintendent Dr.
Janet Barresi, John Fund of the Wall Street Journal and Jeff Reed of
the Friedman Foundation.

* FRIDAY EVENING - MOORE AREA - The Oklahoma City and Norman TEA
PARTIES, along with KQCV radio (800 AM), are sponsoring a “Renovate
Washington” event this Friday evening, January 27th at First Baptist
Church of Moore (NE 27th & I-35). The featured speaker will be “Joe
the Plumber”, famous for his confrontation in 2008 of then candidate
Obama on the issue of redistribution of wealth. A banquet dinner
begins at 6:00 p.m. and the open meeting begins at 7:15 p.m. Tickets
for the banquet are $17 and can be purchased by calling KQCV at
521-0800. There is no charge for the open meeting. This should be a
lot of fun and a big boost to the OKC and Norman tea parties.

* SATURDAY AFTERNOON - OKC AREA - Oklahomans for Sovereignty and
Free Enterprise (OK-SAFE) is hosting a legislative training seminar
this Friday afternoon from 1 to 5:00 p.m. The location will be the
Village Library, 10307 North Pennsylvania in OKC. The information
presented by Amanda Teegarden is probably the best training a person
can get when it comes to understanding the legislative process and how
to be effective at citizen lobbying.

++ PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS

In my perspective on presidential politics last week, I indicated the
belief that if Mitt Romney were to win in South Carolina, he would
probably go on to win the nomination. Well, last week turned out to be
a very bad week for Mitt. Not only did he find out that his previous
razor thin win in Iowa was reversed to a win for Santorum, he was
soundly defeated in South Carolina by Newt Gengrich.

While I don’t trust what either of these two flip floppers say today,
I have to admit, it would almost be worth paying admission to see a
debate between Newt and President Obama. Newt is head and shoulders
ahead of any of the candidates in this race when it comes to debating
skills and the ability to relate information that connects both
substantively and emotionally with the American people.

During this primary process, Mitt has never been able to build much
above that 25 or so percent of his base. During the process, several
candidates have risen to or near the top, only to fall from that
perch. Newt is the first one to rise to the top, fall like a rock and
then ascend again to near the top. The next state up for grabs will be
Florida. I believe if Mitt wins Florida, he will be the likely
nominee. If on the other hand, Florida is won by Newt and that is
likely, I believe he will be the likely nominee as he certainly has
old MO (momentum) on his side right now. My prediction is based on
human nature and how people respond to information and certain
situations. Newt was flashy and easily won the two debates last week
which is why he has risen to the top again.

Just remember, when Super Tuesday arrives in Oklahoma in March,
regardless of what has happened in previous state primaries, your vote
for the candidate you believe is trustworthy and would govern the best
is the right thing to do. If your candidate loses, you did NOT waste
your vote. You will have voted for the person you believed would make
the best president. As I said in last week’s e-mail, I won’t go back
through the reasoning right now, I will be voting for Ron Paul though
I have some problems with three or four of his positions. There has
not been a candidate in this race that doesn’t have weaknesses or
isn’t errant on certain issues in my opinion.

++ OCPAC MEMBERSHIP UP-DATE

My wife and I left shortly after the Clouds Over America conference
last Saturday for one of our little mini trips to different
communities in Oklahoma, this time to McAlester. Since we returned
home Monday afternoon I have been so busy running around like a
chicken without a head that I have not had time to get an exact count
on membership. But based on the memberships that I received at last
Wednesday’s meeting, those that came in the mail and several that were
paid during the Clouds conference, I would expect we are now
approaching 140 dues paying members which will probably break our all
time record for this early in the year. I can’t thank folks enough for
your confidence and support for what we are doing at OCPAC. If you
have not joined as yet, please consider doing so as soon as possible.
Instructions on how to join are below.

I look forward to seeing everyone this Wednesday.

++ AGENDA FOR THIS WEEK’S MEETING

Our 12 noon luncheon for Wednesday, February 1st will be held at
Italiano’s restaurant, 4801 North Lincoln in OKC. We will have a busy
Wednesday this week. Stuart Jolly, State Director with Americans For
Prosperity will be showing his short video titled “Lifestyles of the
Rich and Famous. When you see the salaries of the top 10 highest paid
school superintendents and their level of responsibilities, some of
you are sure to feel like your blood is about to boil. Also speaking
will be Kevin Calvey, legal council for Oklahomans For Life, which is
the state affiliate for the National Right to Life organization. Kevin
will talk about their legislative agenda as well as explain a petition
they are sponsoring. Also, several of the young folks with the
Generation Joshua Project will do a short presentation.

In addition, every one present at our meeting, who was a dues paying
member as of January18th, will be allowed to vote on changes to our
by-laws. One change will be to create an accountability committee
which will be supported by 10% of our dues monies as well as being
able to take additional designated monies for this committee for the
purpose of influencing pending legislation as well as exposing RINOs
or being used to defeat Republican incumbents on our target to defeat
list which is determined by their score on the Oklahoma Constitution’s
Conservative Index. The second proposed change will be to move the
score on the Conservative Index up to a 64 or higher to be exempt from
our adding an incumbent’s name to our target to defeat list. As I have
been saying for the past year or so, we do not really need a larger
number of Republicans in the legislature as we already have strong
super majorities in each body of the legislature. What we need is to
have better quality, more conservative lawmakers in the legislature.
We will have some time for debate and discussion before we vote on
these two changes to our by-laws.

++ ANNOUNCEMENTS

* TUESDAY EVENING - GUTHRIE AREA - There will be a candidate
forum for the special election for Senate District 20 which will occur
on Tuesday, February 14th (valentines day). The lone sacrificial
Democrat candidate will be present along with the 4 Republican
candidates. The location is City Hall, 101 North Second in Guthrie,
with the starting time being 6:30 p.m., this Tuesday, January 31st.
The forum will be telecast live on the Guthrie closed circuit TV
system, channel 20. I always urge conservatives to attend these kind
of meetings to ask questions which will set a conservative tone for
responsible government, rather than leave it up to the leeches and
parasites to ask candidates to promise to continually spend more and
more tax dollars “for the people”. Those kinds of questions simply
lead to a larger dependency class which actually turns out to be
harmful “for the people”.

* SATURDAY - TUTTLE AREA - There will be a meeting for people
concerned with ever increasing interference from government concerning
animals. The organization is the United Rural Animal Industries and
Sportsmen’s Association (URAISA). The time is Saturday, the 4th from
11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. The location is at the Roundup Club across
from the football field in Tuttle.

* SATURDAY - EDMOND AREA - U.S. Senator Tom Coburn will host a
town hall meeting this Saturday, February 4th beginning at 4:00 p.m.
The location will be in the Nigh University Center 3rd floor Ballroom
A on the campus of UCO in Edmond. Senator Coburn is disgusted with
Congress’ lack of action to cut spending at the federal government
level. Come hear what he has to say on this subject, there is no
charge to attend.

* SUNDAY AFTERNOON - STATE CAPITOL - Next Sunday, February 5th,
the day before Oklahoma’s legislative session begins, the eight annual
Legislative Prayer Gathering will be held at the State Capitol. The
event will be held on the floor of both the House and Senate chambers
from 2 until 4:00 p.m. Participants may sit in the seat of their own
State Representative and or State Senator as well as others if one is
so led, to pray for them the day before the session begins. I believe
this is one of the most important times of prayer during the year and
as such have never missed attending during the previous 7 years,
though it is always on the same day as the Super Bowl. I guess one
might say it is a test of priorities, though there is always plenty of
time to get home to watch the game if one so desires. Please park on
the West side of the Capitol and enter through the West door.

* FUTURE EVENT - The Oklahoma County Republican party’s annual
Lincoln/Reagan day dinner and auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. on
Friday evening the 17th of February. The location will be the Marriott
Hotel Ballroom located at 1515, Northwest Expressway in OKC. General
seating is $60 per person, with some preferred and sponsorship seating
also available. For more details or to RSVP please contact Whitney
Harbour at whi...@jordanconsultingstrategies.com or call (405)
285-5465.

++ WILL WISCONSIN GOV WALKER LEAD THE WAY FOR OKLAHOMA?

During the session last year Governor Fallin, under pressure, sent
back to the bankrupt federal government over $50 million dollars of an
early innovator grant to build Oklahoma’s health care insurance
exchange. Throughout the Summer, lawmakers and other interested
parties held interim studies on the subject. Currently, Amanda
Teegarden is traveling the state with a power point presentation
exposing the existence of these exchanges as being an integral and
necessary part for the establishment of Obamacare. She is making the
case that the driving force for these exchanges is coming from the
federal government and not from the state. It is sure to be a hot
topic during this year’s legislative session with the federal
government supposedly hovering over the state like a big bully,
threatening to punish us if we don’t create one of these exchanges as
they demand.

Now, to my point. A week ago Thursday, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker
issued the following press release:

“Madison--Today Governor Walker announced he will not pursue the
implementation of a health insurance exchange and has turned down
Early Innovator Grant funding from the federal government. The
Governor also will repeal the executive order that created the Office
of Free Market Health Care.

‘I have directed the Department of Health Services to notify the
federal government that we will discontinue any development on a
health exchange and that Wisconsin will turn down funding from the
Early Innovator Grant program,’ said Governor Walker. ’Stopping the
encroachment of ObamaCare in our state, which has the potential to
have a devastating impact on Wisconsin’s economy, is a top priority.
Wisconsin has been a leader and innovator in health care reform for
two decades, and we have achieved a high level of health insurance
coverage without federal mandates. When job creators and Wisconsin
families are facing difficult times it doesn’t make sense to commit to
a federal health care mandate that will result in hidden taxes for
Wisconsin families, increased health care costs and insurance
premiums, and more uncertainty in the private sector.’

Governor Walker will sign Executive Order 57 into law, which repeals
the executive order that established the Office of Free Market Health
Care.”

A few years ago, Oklahoma took the lead by opting out of REAL ID, with
many more states following our lead. The question before us today is,
will legislative members in Oklahoma, along with Governor Fallin, have
the courage to stand up to the federal government and chose to opt out
of Obamacare by saying NO to the creation of a health care insurance
exchange?

Get ready, the session is about to start and at a key time you will be
called on to contact your state senator and state representative to
urge them to say no to these data base sharing surveillance society
insurance exchanges. If you do not know the names of your elected
representatives, get cracking and find that information. The most
RELIABLE way to get that information is to call your COUNTY election
board, give them your address and they will give you your information.

++ OCPAC STRAW POLL FOR PRESIDENT

I was planning on a program sometime in February to have surrogates
for the various presidential candidates come to OCPAC for a candidate
forum, with a straw poll to follow. However, there have been sooooo
many debates, that I believe it unnecessary to have such a program.
The voters should be ready to make their choices based on their own
observations of the campaign so far. Therefore, I want to conduct a
straw poll as follows: Our dues paying members, as well as others,
may vote by sending an e-mail to me at: charlie...@gmail.com or
folks can vote in person at this week’s meeting. I will do my best to
make sure there is no double voting and as a point of interest, I will
keep separate the vote count from our dues paying members and those
who are non members. Voting by e-mail will continue through this
coming Saturday and I will announce the outcome in next week’s e-mail.

++ MOVIE REVIEW - THE IRON LADY

Over the weekend my wife and I, along with another couple, went to see
the newly released movie, THE IRON LADY, which is about the life of
Maggie Thatcher, the former Prime Minister of Great Britton. If it
weren’t for the fact that the movie was about a famous person, it
could just as easily have been about the struggles of a person
suffering from some form of dementia or perhaps even Alzheimer’s as
the story was woven back an forth from her condition today to
flashbacks of her past.

However, of much more interest to me, were the ideological struggles
of which she understood and how they lead her to the eventual position
of Prime Minister. So much of what she and her country struggled with
at that time are the same issues we are faced with today.

There was one part of the movie that had a discussion on the problems
that occur when people are influenced by their feelings. I had to
exert maximum discipline upon myself to not stand up in the theater
and shout a big “amen” or “right on” or the ultimate of “hear it
people, hear it”. A feeling oriented society will always be a
manipulated society, unstable and quickly flopping around from one
side of an issue to another.

That type of voter will put a particular party in power in one
election cycle, only to kick them out during the next election when
they put the opposite ideologues in power. Such ignorance in people
who lack the basic understanding of the principles of good government
and what works versus what doesn’t work is the reason we are in such
trouble today. Such a society is probably incapable of self-
governance. Another part of the movie portrayed the violence that
occurred when rational changes had to occur, violence we are likely to
see rise in this nation, perhaps as we go through this year if the
“occupy” movements really gets cranked up as expected.

Another great part of the movie portrayed the struggles with the
gutless cowards within the conservative party in which she had to
contend. Very similar to the establishment types within the Republican
party today who most often oppose the conservatives. It was a great
movie, with much to be gleaned, I highly recommend it.
