Looking for Crew for the S17 Occupy Public Network

We currently don't have enough volunteer the work load of the S17. If doesn't require much more than willingness, profesionalism and able to follow the instructions on how to handle the computers, floor cards for floor manages, organize members of upcoming program and so on. This one here is the roster for programs. You still have time to take put your segment here. Note that your segment doesn't have to be 30mnts or 1hour. That is because between programs we will be cutting to livestreamers and we will have people acting as hosts that will be coming on front of the camera to indicate viewers what is happenning with in the streets and studio. Performers are also welcome.

NOTE to LIVESTREAMERS: I will be creating a roster so that you an write your name, your livestream channel- url, the location you will be covering and the times you will be doing so. 

Lets make this a big one in terms of media outlet. For this everyone effort is needed.

We are still looking for 30seconds psa of this events to air it on the channel to promote the event. Make your version of it. 

We will have the channel since 9am- right after Democracy Now, so, we need to create an hour worth of content to be played while we are getting ready to go live at 10am. I am requesting to the media group/livestreamers to make a kickass one hour to two hours video that we can play. It can be a compilation of clips from day one until now. That one hour clip can have 30secs psa enbed so that viewers are prepared to what is to come the rest of the day. Do you get me? What do you think?

There is now a petition available to sign and pass around to stop the mayoral defunding of libraries in order to create real estate deals, shrinking the system in the process.  (Usage is way up.)

This is something that is dead-on a 1% against the 99% issue.

It's system wide.  I just came back from the Pacific Branch one that they want to close.

Libraries involved in this defunding, closure, consolidation and shrinkage:

The four main libraries in Manhattan:

Donnell was closed

42nd Street's Research library is being dismanteled
Mid-Mahattan
The 34th Street Science Library

In Brooklyn:

Brooklyn Heights branch
Downtown Brooklyn Business Library
Main branch at Grand Army Plaza
Pacific Branch
A long list of libraries in the wings (I have the names of some but the information isn't being circulated publicly)

It's system-wide but I need to collect more information about the other boroughs.

First targets are the juiciest real estate deals.

It's something that could really embarrass our supposedly philanthropic mayor.

I've written three articles on the subject already (more coming) one of which is one of the four articles in the background to the petition.  The Center for and Urban Future article and report on usage is valuable.

The petition says:

We demand that Mayor Bloomberg stop defunding New York libraries at a time of increasing public use, population growth and increased city wealth.  Shrinking our library system to create real estate deals for the wealthy at a time of cutbacks in education and escalating disparities in opportunity is not only unjust, it is a shortsighted plan that will ultimately hurt New York City’s economy and competitiveness.

In fact, it has been one of the top petitions- And it has now gone up to more than 7200 signatures in less than two weeks (this is good).  The bigger topic, to be parleyed into other discussions along the way is the selling off of the public realm for the benefit of the privileged few.

We can certainly use lots of troops joining in the event to protest the privatizing sell-off of the public libraries.  (The occasion is a City Council hearing on library system budget, hence the "demolition by neglect" setting up these deals.)  If we can win on this issue we are in deep doodoo.
