Occupy City Heights (OCH) - GA NOTES (Sat., 5/12/12)

PRESENT: Aaron, Carl, Matthew, Will, Damaso, Joni, Josh, Martin, Yvonne

· OCH endorsed the June 9 event, “Occupy Our Arts”.

· Discussion of the Madrid Model (Decentralization)--Report from Josh re: OccuTrip, Neighborhood Assemblies, Social Centers (abandoned buildings, city/county-owned spaces vs. bank-owned spaces, etc.), indy TV/Radio stations, and more… (Some notes omitted here for security purposes).

· Cop Watch / City Heights Curfew Sweeps—Report from Carl re: targeting youth of color in 92105, sweeps not helping, suggestion that OCH & Cop Watch should have a presence at both police HQ and the processing center, focus on community involvement, etc. Cop Watch will meet at 12:30 pm on Sat., 5/19 (after OCH meeting). Aaron will work on a flyer.

· Outreach—Farmers’ Market on Sat. am, SDCCD building @ 9 pm weekdays, Corner Occupations, etc. Martin has flyers & surveys. Aaron talked to Anoki re: OYC teach-in in City Heights—early June was suggested.

· Upcoming Events—Carl reported on new group, “URJ” (United for Racial Justice?). Meeting at 7 pm on Monday to discuss Cop Watch issues, etc.

· Announcements: Architects for 9/11 Truth will show new documentary on Mon. (date?) at the Joyce Beers Center. Community Radio Project meets on Thursday @ ASD. 1-2 rooms are available for rent in the ASD Co-op House. Ruckus training on Sunday. OYC will participate in Arts Event on May 20. Damaso is working on banners, etc.
