Best way to learn Cappuccino for someone new to client-side development?

Hi all,

I've been programming Python for a while, and used JSON and traditional web frameworks, but have very little client-side development experience. After seeing Cappuccino at FOWA, it seems to be a better fit for my projects than traditional templating + javascript focused development, but it's hard finding resources that just teach objective J without prior knowledge of Javascript.

- I've read there's a book on the way, though back in March [1] this was mentioned as being delayed till after the Atlas release. Any updates on the situation now that Atlas is about to come out?

- I hear some existing Cocoa or Objective C books may be useful. Which ones specifically do people recommend?

- Alternatively, would anyone in London like to do a paid introduction to Cappuccino?

- Any plans for a Cappucino conference at some point?

Thanks,

Mike

For starters, I found the tutorial for objective-j here very helpful
for people without objective-c or javascript experience -
http://cappuccino.org/learn/tutorials/objective-j-tutorial.php .

There is also a community blog at cappuccino flow -
http://cappuccinoflow.com/ . Thomas Balthazar's cappuccino casts are
especially enlightening - http://cappuccinocasts.com/ . As are the
other tutorials listed here - http://cappuccino.org/learn/tutorials/ .

But in general, documentation and tutorials are still an area in which
cappuccino is trying to get better.

Thanks. I've seen the objective j tutorial, alas due to the aforementioned lack of client programming experience I was wondering if there was something that taught Objective J out of the box, without requiring prior Javascript knowledge.

to Cappuccino & Objective-J
You might want to check out Cocoa (Objective-C) with the Python
bridge. Althougth this won't help with the language, it will give you
an idea about Cocoa (and conversely Cappuccino).

Hi Mike-

I've also been learning Capp & Objective-J from scratch and have compiled a few resources I've used along the way. Perhaps something there will be of assistance to you:

Sorry Jerod, meant to say thanks very much for this (as well as the authors of the other blog tutorials), they've been really helpful.
