Hey coders,

I'm new to this whole GAE malarkey, and have been playing around with twig for a few days while slowly building my data model for a new business app. I particularly like twig's coding style and the ability to embed objects, but after doing some (more!) reading I am torn between twig and objectify.

I like the idea that while being a little more complex, Objectify will help me learn how the datastore works. I also love the detailed docs, and the community seems larger, as clearly objectify has been around longer.

I am wondering if there is anybody here who has come across any problems using twig and had to switch to objectify - or whether anyone uses both? What are the defining factors in your choices?

All contributions are much appreciated.

Drew

Jeff is one of the smartest software engineers around.

Is that you, Jeff? Haha, boom boom.

No seriously, I'm sure he is. He also seems like an extremely helpful and generally nice person. However, John (the creator of twig) also seems extremely smart and also has a lot of time for people, too. The main thing about twig is that it's just one guy... which worries me a little. I do love the POJOs though.

Since writing this post I have realised that polymorphic queries are not yet available in twig, and discovered that embedded entities are also a feature of objectify.

I guess I will have to have a play with objectify to see how it 'feels'.

Anyone else got anything to contribute?

For Americans: Drew appears to be working british cultural references into his emails :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basil_Brush - refer second para.

Aww, thanks Jon :-)

(Jon and I have worked together for years)

FWIW, Twig was around before Objectify. I tried using it but for
various reasons it was less than ideal for my app, so I wrote
Objectify. Since then both Twig and Objectify have advanced
considerably, but in somewhat different directions. John Patterson is
also a smart cookie and I'm sure Twig is just fine.

I think your approach of "try each and see what feels right" is a good
one. Obviously, I'm quite partial to Ofy.

Jeff
