Good Day All,

Just wanted to poll the group on your experiences with OBIEE 11g customers and how often you see the customer going with Oracle Web Tier in conjunction with deploying OBIEE 11g?

Michael,

We now promote this with all of our clients.

We have been told by several reps (or at least they've told our
clients) that Oracle Web Tier is actually included with the Oracle
WebLogic version that comes with Oracle BI 11g.

We incorporate it mainly to overcome any HTTP transfer latency that
has been reported by Oracle. This enables use to set compression on
the HTTP traffic and the static cache which results in better
performance for consumption by any web browsers.

If on Windows, we do the same for IIS.

We actually put this content into the 11g book as well,

I think everyone should get used to the Oracle Web Tier (OWT) just
like they've started learning about WebLogic as this (or at least the
principle of it) is going to be a bigger and bigger part of Fusion
Middleware going forward.

Cheers,
Christian

Micheal,

I concur with Christian.  I would say this is now an official "best practice."

The technical sales reps that I have talked to said that Web Tier is a separate product, so it is an additional cost.

Anyone know where to get a final verdict on that? (Of course I realize that it may be bundled as part of a bigger package, but to my knowledge, it is not bundled in the BI Foundation Suite).

We have that exact question into Oracle right now, I have heard it both ways. As it is part of the OBIEE 11g Suite and also a version that says you have to had bought the full Fusion Middleware package to get it. I will post back what I hear from Oracle. But I agree with Kevin as it seems to be the only way to "BI".
