Day of Service... and Celebration

Dear Friends,

One week from today Barack Obama will swear his oath of office on the
steps of the US Capitol building in Washington, DC. As he swears to
serve his country, his transition team is asking each of us to promise
to do the same, by committing to participate in a Day of Service
surrounding the Inaugural.

Democrats Abroad has very kindly organised an opportunity for
Americans Abroad here in London to serve our wider community by
writing letters to wounded American service men and woman at the
Military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany - while watching the inagural
ceremony live as it happens.

This event is free of charge and open to all - no need to RSVP. You

If you would like to participate in the day of service, but can't be
in London on the day feel free to write directly or send a care
package (or, why not get a few friends together to watch the
inauguration and conduct a Day of Service in your home?) - full

Following the Service event, I know many of you will be attending the
amazing London Inaugural Ball - tickets for this are selling quickly,
so if you would like to go but haven't booked a place yet, make sure
you do that right away so you don't miss out!

And finally, please join your fellow volunteers to celebrate the furst
full day of Obama's Presidency with a reception along with MPs from
all major British political parties in the historic and prestigous
House of Commons. This event is free of charge (with a voluntary 5
pound donation to cover cost), but again, places are nearly full so do
RSVP today if you would like to attend.

We have so much to celebrate this year, and so many reasons to be
hopeful. But I hope that we will also remember in the midst of our
celebrations, that this is the beginning, not the end of our hard
work. Barack Obama has called upon the whole country - and his
supporters in particular - to play our part in helping to restore
America.
